Ho Chi Minh City has introduced 169 electric buses across nine routes, marking a significant move towards sustainable public transport. The electric buses, operated by VinBus Ecology Transport Services LLC, began service on Sunday. They replace existing vehicles on routes 32, 38, 45, 53, 64, 93, 127, 140, and 148, connecting key areas of the city to major transport hubs like Ben Thanh, Mien Tay, and Mien Dong bus stations.

This initiative is part of a broader effort to increase green public transportation in the city. VinFast, a local manufacturer, produces the EB6 and EB8 models, which are fully electric and equipped with modern facilities such as cameras, electronic displays, Wi-Fi, and USB charging ports. The city's public transport system currently comprises 2,325 buses, with 1,082 buses on 66 routes using clean energy, representing 48.4% of the total fleet.

Experts believe that the deployment of electric buses will significantly reduce the city's carbon footprint and improve air quality. The project is an essential step towards the city's goal of achieving a 100% green public transport system by 2030. The transition is expected to reduce reliance on traditional fossil fuels and position Ho Chi Minh City as a leader in sustainable urban transport in Vietnam.

Looking forward, the city plans to continue expanding its green transportation network. By 2030, all public buses are expected to be environmentally friendly, supporting both local and international efforts to combat climate change and promote sustainability, reported VN Express.
