Authorities in Vietnam have dismantled an illegal gambling operation at the Sheraton Nha Trang Hotel & Spa, marking the second such bust at the location in three years. On March 1, Khanh Hoa provincial police raided the GDC Lucky Club in the hotel’s basement, apprehending 13 foreigners participating in poker games. The raid led to the seizure of $3,500 in cash and other related documents.

The GDC Lucky Club was officially registered as an electronic prize-winning game venue, with Ha Woang Minh Hoa, 30, as the legal representative. It was found that players exchanged cash for chips or deposited dollars into gaming machines, with the venue taking a commission on all bets placed. Authorities are now probing the involvement of individuals connected to the operation.

This recent crackdown follows a prior discovery of illegal gambling in the same location on April 15, 2023. During that raid, police interrupted a different operation, the former GameClub Lucky, and detained 27 individuals playing games including baccarat and blackjack for cash. The prior raid revealed the operation generated over VND52.6 billion ($2.07 million) in illicit revenue.

Earlier, on February 11, 2025, the operators of the 2023 ring were tried and sentenced. South Korean national Jo Wansu, identified as the leader, received five and a half years in prison. He and Ngo Van Chuyen were ordered to return over VND42 billion and $30,000 in unlawful gains. Others involved, including Shin Jae Ho and several employees, were convicted and ordered deported post-sentence.

The connection between the newly busted GDC Lucky Club and the past GameClub Lucky operation remains uncertain. Authorities have not released the nationalities of the 13 individuals detained in the recent bust, underscoring ongoing investigations, reported VN Express.
