Texas Latinos turned out in massive numbers for Democrats

Featured Replies

Latino voters flocked to Tuesday’s Democratic primary in Texas in droves, reversing a long-running erosion for the party ahead of this year’s pivotal midterms.

The numbers were dramatic: In five different rural majority-Latino counties, more votes were cast in Tuesday’s Democratic primary than for Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election.

“These very Hispanic counties are amongst the swingiest in the country, and they’re really telling us something,” said Mike Madrid, an anti-Trump GOP strategist who wrote a book about Latino voters.

So more Hispanic voters voted Democratic in a primary then voted in the last presidential election. That's not supposed to happen. It's clearly a big plus for Talarico who faces an uphill fight against whatever Republican gets chosen to be the Senate candidate

Wow. This is quite impressive and speaks volumes.

Did these Latinos need to show ID to vote?

Or were they all illegals voting illegally?

ICE agents at all voting stations would seem a good idea.

Yup our latino brothers recognize a snake oil salesman when they see one they won’t be fooled twice.

Sure. In Texas. A state entirely controlled by Republicans. In fact, Texas has repeatedly launched investigations to check for voting by non-citizens. The investigations came up with next to nothing.

I think this is why Jasmine Crockett lost.

Truly a diabolical comments. I honestly can't tell whether you mean that sarcastically, which would really make no sense, or it's a sincere observation. Anyway, congratulations are in order! Especially right now because it just happens to be International Ambiguity Day. Or maybe you knew that?

As of 2024-2025, Hispanics are the largest demographic group in Texas, comprising approximately 40% to 41% of the state's population. They have been the primary drivers of the state's population growth over the past two decades.

Key Details

  • Population Size: The Hispanic population in Texas is estimated to be over 12.6 million, according to Pew Research Center.

  • Demographic Milestone: Hispanics became the largest racial or ethnic group in Texas in 2021, surpassing non-Hispanic whites, reports The Texas Tribune.

  • Growth Driver: The increase in the Hispanic population is credited for powering the state’s population gains for the last 20 years.

  • Regional Concentration: In certain cities like El Paso, the Hispanic population is significantly higher, representing over 80% of the local population.

Please provide a link to back up this claim. Thanks.

They made an enormous miscalculation voting for Trump this time around, thinking that he was somebody completely different than who the real man is, he is a great salesman and he's able to spin things in a way that few circus hocksters in the past have been able to, so he somehow convinced these people that it was the right thing to do. However the extremely nasty and vindictive nature of his policies has shown him to be who he truly is, and Latinos are finding him quite deplorable, racist and hateful towards them and all people of color.

Are the final results of the primaries out already?

From what I saw yesterday, Democrats were leading all over, which says something about a state that has been GOP for decades, and Trump's Gerrymandering attempts.

I'm not sure what you mean by "leading". If you mean voter turnout, yes.

Texas primary voters smash recent midterm turnout records

Turnout in the Democratic primary outpaced that on the Republican side for the first time since 2020, a notable distinction given the draw of high-profile Senate primaries in both parties.

As a non-American I obviously don't understand the US voting system, other than that it seems to a silly one, but this is what I was thinking about.

The primaries are for selecting candidates. The general election will happen in November. In Texas, a prospective candidate has to get an absolute majority of the vote to become the candidate. So Cornyn and Paxton will have to engage in a runoff about 3 months from now.
