Iran threatens to strike $30bn ‘Stargate’ AI mega data centre

Iran has threatened to bomb one of the world’s most powerful artificial intelligence data centres — a $30 billion facility in the Gulf used by major US technology firms — dramatically widening the stakes of the Middle East conflict.

A spokesperson for Iran’s elite Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps warned that the massive “Stargate” computing complex in the United Arab Emirates could become a target if Washington continues military pressure on Tehran.

The threat signals a dangerous shift: from oil routes and military bases to the digital infrastructure powering the global AI race.

Video Threat Puts AI Hub in Crosshairs

In a video address, IRGC spokesman Ebrahim Zolfaghari warned that Iranian retaliation would target key technological and energy assets linked to US allies.

“All power plants, energy infrastructure, and information and communication technology of the Zionist regime” could face “complete and utter annihilation,” he said.

The footage then cut to satellite imagery showing the remote desert site of the Stargate complex — highlighting its exact location despite attempts to obscure it on mapping platforms.

The $30bn Engine Behind the AI Boom

The Stargate project is backed by leading tech players including OpenAI, Nvidia, Cisco, Oracle and SoftBank.

Planned to deliver around one gigawatt of computing power, the complex represents one of the largest AI infrastructure projects ever attempted.

Its first operational phase — roughly 200 megawatts packed with an estimated 10,000 Nvidia AI chips — was expected to come online this year before war in the region disrupted timelines.

Digital Infrastructure Becomes Strategic Target

The warning suggests Iran now views Western AI infrastructure as part of the strategic battlefield.

Facilities tied to US companies — including platforms operated by Microsoft, Apple, Google and Meta Platforms — could also face retaliation if tensions escalate.

Destroying the Stargate hub would deal a major blow not just to Gulf technology ambitions, but to global AI computing capacity.

War Expands From Oil to the Data Economy

The threat underscores how modern conflict is increasingly targeting the infrastructure behind the digital economy.

For years, the Gulf has positioned itself as a new centre for global computing power. But as the war drags into a second month, the region’s biggest tech investment now sits squarely in the crosshairs of a geopolitical confrontation.

My sense is they were just making a point. Obviously it's a target. Iran is just meeting Trump's threats of elevation with their own threats of elevation.

It also ramps up external pressure on the Trump regime from the UAE and the US tech companies that have invested, they don't want to see their project blown to pieces

They may not be launching as many attacks as in the first few days but they're definitely still hitting targets in the Gulf.

The article below from yesterday, lists attacks on Kuwait, Bahrain, the UAE and Saudi Arabia.

Kuwait’s power, water plants damaged as Iran keeps attacking Gulf states

Later on Sunday, the Kuwait Petroleum Corp reported “significant material losses” after Iranian drone attacks on several of its facilities, according to the KUNA news agency.

Bahrain’s Gulf Petrochemical Industries Co said several of its units were subjected to an attack by Iranian drones while, earlier in the day, the country’s national oil company, Bapco Energies, said an oil tank at one of its storage facilities was hit.

The UAE’s official news agency WAM later reported that authorities were responding with an incident after the Khor Fakkan port in the Gulf of Oman was targeted.

Saudi Arabia, meanwhile, intercepted missiles early on Sunday, the kingdom said.

Not hitting anything? Not from from the video clips I have seen. And I suppose the U.S. warplanes shot down were from alien's laser beams.

Not really. They are attempting to prevent the destruction of their power grid.
