Songkran is celebrated the same days, April 13-15, every year.

Thanks again to another Mr. Knowitall.

What are you meeping about, this is banned since years already. Except maybe in the ghetto called Pattaya. Happy I am living down south on the islands, we just do 1 day water fun here, 2 at most. Limited water supply can be heaven lol (somehow nobody gets that there is a lot of ocean water to use).

"this is banned since years already."

If banned not enforced.

But possibly another who hasn't witnessed the "Songkran arms race" as the years have passed.

He asked, I answered, like thousands of members seeking and passing along information do. Nothing to do with being a know it all, as that's an assumption.

I’m fine the smaller squirt guns. I’m not a fan of the super soakers.

Guess you never celebrated it with your family, giving presents and enjoying a great dinner, where much or all of the family got together and celebrated the birth of Jesus and his resurrection.

Songkran is fun for those interested in celebrating it. it isn't fun for those who have to go about their own business , driving to the market or stores for shopping, and getting hit in the face with water and or powder, which is a danger when on a scooter. driving an auto doesn't pose a risk to anyone besides those getting too close but there are many without an auto who want to go shopping and get home safely. Those throwing water and powder don't take into consideration the ones who only want to shop and return home. Also is a time when many die, celebrating a holiday, when it should be celebrating life and not people dying. And yes, I've celebrated it, with my family here, but never threw anything at people who obviously weren't into the celebrations.

Jesus stories are fake though. Water is real.

You think it beats the two Christian festivals because, believe it or not, Songkran is the BUDDHIST New Year.

It is a fun festival. Jesus stories are all fake.

Don't have to prove fake stories wrong. Like ghosts, no evidence they exist. Nothing to prove wrong. Only dumb people believe in fake stories like turnig water into wine or coming back from the dead. If god was creating "sons" to do this he could do it every year and remove all doubt.

Have you ever looked around you during your life and realize everything had to have a creator, as all the different things that all fit into place on earth, along with what everything needs to survive, and the right distance from the sun, the intricacies of the brain, all species, and think this happened from a big bang not made by God, but just happened all by itself? LOL God wants us to believe by faith.

Miracles were done then to start the thinking, and now it's all based on faith, although miracles do still happen, but some call them coincidence, as there are such things . If God could make a universe from his mind, making wine from water isn't too hard.

Having faith isn't being "dumb". Not having belief can have you in real trouble when it's your time to go.

So why does not god produce multiple sons and prove he exists? Jesus jnr could run 100 in 3 seconds, swim from America to England non stop.

It is hard to explain the stars but "god" is airy fairy stuff. Not even logical for god to exist. Who created god? Does god have a dad? What actually is god?

That's what faith is about. Believing in something you can't see and go by what's been said during the centuries passed. The alternative to not having a creator is ludicrous.

India has 330 million minor gods. Some worship basil. Only Christians believe Jesus was the son of god. Jews and muslims say he was only a prophet.

So with over 330m gods how do you know the Christians are right? If you were born in India or Pakistan most likely your beliefs are different because they mostly came from parents or local society. So your faith is merely based on your upbringing in one small part of the world.

Faith again is what's necessary. My faith is not only based on my upbringing, which was Catholic, but research and listening to others speak. We all have choices we make, and the word is out there. Not having any belief has one thinking this life and all it's evil is all there is, when all the crapola that happens here will end once we pass onto the next part. If there were more than one God we would surely see some competition for who to believe in from those other gods.

Why do you need faith in stories? You can believe life is mostly good without god and enjoy it as it plays out. You can enjoy food, drinking, activities, events without any belief in god. Nobody has ever came back from the dead and proved heaven or god exists. God can't even make a second son. If god can make a universe why can't he make two sons to prove he exists? We have cameras now to take a photo of Jesus jnr so everybody can then know the correct god to follow.

There are millions who barely get by, children who die from cancer at age 2, diseases out the arse, wars, narcissists, cheaters, molesters, murderers of innocents, drug dealers that sell drugs that kill, doctors who over prescribe and also kill, human traffickers and more, so this world is not a place of just enjoyment for many.

That there is perfection afterwards makes sense, for those who believe, as this life, even if you live to 120, is still short, but forever doesn't stop.

God made everything, but people needed Jesus back then to spread the word, and faith afterwards. Yes, it would be easy to show himself to prove he exists, but faith has us using our own free will to do whatever we want, even though his laws have been around for a long time.

Why doesn't god stop all the cancer, murderers and other bad things? He could send down "super cops" like superman. If he can create a universe creating super cops would not be hard. No god exists though.

I try my best to accept others proclivities and just shrug them off. People that enjoy causing discomfort is something I just can't wrap my head around.

I was in Pattaya years ago and I just sat in the background watching a bunch of larger foreigners getting insanely excited when they tagged a cyclist in the face with a powerful blast of water. They caused 2 minor accidents and both involved Thais that were extremely upset but what could they do? These types are terrible people but they don't have a clue so really not much you can do about it.

start handing out fines and even jail sentences.

It's their holiday and they've been doing the same things for decades. Throwing powder and spraying water at anyone who passes by, whether it's a car or a scooter with children, elderly or carrying packages from shopping, and I'm sure over those decades many locals have been hurt and hospitalized by people who couldn't care less but thought it was a joke.

I've seen it for over 8 years with many getting knocked off scooters or driving into something because their vision was blocked. None involved foreigners although I'm sure it happens because Thailand is a big country and we see only a fraction of what goes on daily here.

When I first visited here I knew a little of the holiday and the water and was prepared with shorts and a shirt, getting drenched a few minutes after I left the hotel. Driving is a different story.

That's nice and it should be fun if that is your thing. Nothing wrong with a big party, drinks, and water. Do you do it everyday of Songkran? How do you participate in the celebration?

For me, it is just a time to relax with people I hardly know and drink some beer. Even the harmless water throwing doesn't interest me in the least. I enjoy the celebration and the eye candy.

My bunker is the 7-11 store within a 15 minute walk. Having lived nearby for 10+ years I know all the delivery and restock times.

There are levels. Some foreigners ratched up the intensity to an unhealthy level. I've never seen an altercation among THais during the celebration. I've seen countless altercations involving foreigners.

You haven't witnessed the few foreigners that ruin the celebration for everybody other than themselves? I find that hard to believe...

I don't spend time in tourist areas and I'm sure it's mainly them who cause the most trouble, either not knowing what's expected here or not caring. Those who live here know what it's all about.

I think it's a nice holiday, and walking around in large cities or villages where almost everyone has a water gun or a bucket, and everyone getting wet in this heat is a fun thing. Throwing water and powder at people driving by on major roads is a problem and dangerous, but some don't understand or care about others enough to think of the consequences.

Makes sense.

I live in a small tourist town that is popular with Thais. It's a big event but I haven't seen one incident involving a psychopath partier in years. I could see many every hour in Bangkok or Pattaya for example and 90% of the idiots would be foreigners.
