Those places are not out of the way. Great beaches, nice locals, no trashy people. Some Thai gyms are 300 to 500 baht. Not worth it.

Pranburi - excellent large 100 baht gym. Nice beaches. Nice area. Quiet. Close to Hua Hin.

Hua Hin - nice gyms, malls and beaches but concrete jungle.

Ban Krut - lovely town. Great beaches for miles. One gym. Excellent food on the beach. Lacks a mall and pharmacies.

Bang Saphan - broken up into 4 sections if you count Bo Thang and Suan Luang. It has more shops and stuff. You have a city area plus 3 beach areas. The beaches are great.

HH has some trashy people but the others don't.

If PKK had a Market Village it would be ideal but that would attract more farangs. More farangs equals more trash so there is a trade off!

Seen the pictures. Totally get why you stay where you do - looks like a really nice lifestyle with natural surroundings. Don't see some as the type to be ready to make that longer term commitment - requiring likely a long term partner who is on the same page.

Gym prices reflect rent prices, cost of equipment and local incomes. Rents in Prachuap are cheap and incomes lower than Bangkok so prices are cheaper. A small gym will be 50 or 60 baht and a large one 100 baht.

I don't really like central Pattaya - bit too chaotic for me but good to go from time to time. Up till now I have one or two month stays that I look at as getting used to retired life so I don't feel I have to do anything in particular. Nice to have good gym, pools, food, massage, have a bit of fun and stay somewhere where it's not noisy. Can add on a trip to Koh Chang, Phuket, or wherever and then I might be more active and touristy.

We didn't think to build on our land (bought 2014/15), until it was here. Makro was our 'go to' at Udon also. Global arrived after Makro. Most chains here quite new.

Not really a place for a single person, especially if a wee bit introvert. Most farangs I see at Makro seem to be in relationships, about the same as myself, 60s & 70s, with partner in 40s & 50s+.

The towns of Pkk, Ban Krut, Bang Saphan, Pranburi are the nicest small towns in Thailand IMO. All linked by short train rides. You should go check them out. There are cheaper than Koh Chang but beaches just as good. The smaller towns are serviced by the 3 digit trains while the 2 digit express trains just do the main spots. Click on Thonburi train station on google maps and you can see the time tables.

Not enough people here to support a real mall, and love a good food court, especially when AC restaurants are silly priced, like HH or BKK. A few vendors here are reasonably priced, other cater to weekend crowd and not the best value.

We do seem to be upping our dining choice when at BKK visiting daughter, as can't remember last time we hit a food court when there.

We really do dine in 95% of the time at home, and guess that falls in with one of our hobbies. Fills in quite a bit of our time also. Wouldn't be happy living here if we had to rely on restaurants, as not enough variety. Fine if all you want is a burger & pizza, or same 5-10 repetitive Thai dishes.

Not even close to Koh Chang. Kae Bei is turning into one happening spot on Chang and is nice as heck was there in January. White Sands and Klong Prao are both much nicer beaches. At night there are open air barbecues on the beach with fire shows.

There is a good reason why Chang and Kood are getting so popular with both Thai and foreign travelers.

Perhaps on Google they look as nice, but sadly that is not so. I am not saying they are not nice, but dont compare to the islands IMHO.

Disagree, as Hua Hin's Blueport & Market Village are quite busy with farang, and most seem to be expats. Another major advantage to malls, for expats, is easy parking, and a big plus for us. Same with Krung Thep malls. Thais & expats taking advantage, as parking is a must for us, and most other self drivers.
