I was fortunate enough to see most everything I wanted while there. If not raising a kid here, TH, I would have returned to USA after I sold first house, as saw most of TH, the first 3 years I was here. It's a small country. 3 years on the road is enough time to explore such a small country.

Life is about relationships, not locations. Until you experience the true love of a wee one, or partner, you haven't experience life.

If I could have taken the kid out of TH, I wouldn't be here. Now I'm just too lazy to leave, and can't think of a place more relaxing than I am right now. Could go for a change of seasons though. Thankfully it started raining. Just waiting for that damn drone to arrive and we're O&A.

If life was just about love then living in Phimai would be ok but Phimai is a SH so location matters.

Plus people think the grass is greener on the other side of the fence. After 3 months in USA you would miss Thailand.

You really think I would have stayed in Udon, for 16 yrs, if I could have taken the kid out of province, or country. We had a place rented at PKK, before she was done high school 🙄 Bought the land a year or 2 earlier. Couldn't leave Udon fast enough. One of the better metros to live .... but ... only if you have to.

3 months of school breaks were a BuddhaSend. And took advantage of long weekends for Isan adventures. Pretty sure I visited every nook & cranny worth peeking at in the NE. I didn't even do the in country extensions, till visa got used for retirement, when I turned 50, almost 5 yrs, as I enjoyed popping over to Vientiane ever 90 days.

At least once a year, I'd pop over to Myanmar, as always cruising by Ranong around the 90 day period.

3 months in USA, and I'd just get started visiting the National Parks (63). That would take a year or 2 just to see them.

Elias National Park and Preserve in Alaska, is 1/10th the size of TH. Yellowstone Nat Park is larger than 55 of TH's provinces. Let that sink in.

Alaska alone is larger than TH ... 49 other states to see. I've been to most already. 16 yrs working for the airlines, and I abused the hell out of those flight bennies. Last eight years, only worked about 10 days a month.

When I went to New York and had a pizza slice I was pretty disappointed. Seemed very flat and unhealthy and not yummy at all. Australia does a good pizza.

Oh contraire, and 71. My endurance is more than my daughter's (27), her fiancé (26), muay Thai trained or my wife's (49), and can walk, hike, trek, cycle further than them any day of the week. That's with a bum back & hip. I can hobble further than all of them.

Not a fan of steps, but I'll take them, 1 or 2 floors instead of waiting for the elevator. Can't believe people at that damn lazy, and explain a lot of them pear shaped folks waddling around.

Ao Manao has food on the beach, a gym, shade and nice beach for walk or swim. Read a book. Just south of there is a jungle food restaurant serving up frog. 45 minutes away is Ban Krut. Even nicer beach. Bang Saphan Noi 30 minutes away with a nice beach.

You really dont know much about people who stay fit. My wife and I exercise daily and enjoy hiking. Last year at this time we were home for a daughters wedding and took the opportunity to visit the Grand Canyon and Sedona Az. We took a shorter Bright Angel trail walk was hard but fulfilling. 4. 5 miles down 2500 feet. Got to Havasupai Gardens an oasis halfway down to the Colorado river. Coming back was hard, but just stop and sip water. We also did the whole of the Rim Walk another day as well.

Please stop pontificating and put up some photos of your travels, never have seen any with all the talk.

Most of Isaan is boring as you say. The coolest town is Chiang Khan but mainly the river area. I prefer beaches though. I will be staying in Chumphon city as I got a great hotel deal and riding to Saphli beach.

Spot on there, and along the river is only places we really enjoyed hanging out for a few days. Loei has some very nice rolling hills, and prefer over say, Khao Yai area.

Khao Kho, Phetchabun is really very nice also, though technically the North. Stone's throw from Loei & NBLP (wife's hometown area).

Really need to be on a hillside or near water as these 2 areas are boring as all hell. Concrete cities and farmland just doesn't cut it, after a day of knocking around.

Yeah I like the main white temple in Phetchabun but the town was lame. The best thing to do is drive the rolling hills as you say. I drove from Nong Khai to Pua which was an awesome drive. The views in Pua are great but the town is just blah. If I did a drive again be the same route but go onto Chiang Rai via the 1148 road.
