If you live in USA, you really don't need to travel, to sample some of the best foods from so many countries & regions. I've had my best Thai from Philly's Chinatown, and from what I understand, doesn't compare to other cities. Use to eat great Thai @ South St Philly and a place in Plantation, FL, I think, Boca/Ft Laud. area, west of (?).

I myself prefer Mexican (not TexMex) & Caribbean cuisine, since that was my playground for diving. Been to most cities my airlines flew to, in USA, for food & sex 🙄

San Antonio itself has at least 10 Thai restaurants, all owned by either Thais or them and their foreign husbands. Seven I frequented were all from Thailand, one who had two from Korat, and their food was as good or better than any I've had here to this day.

The US is much bigger than Thailand. It ought to be much better for many things if you move around. Thailand is about low cost of living and lifestyle. Riding bikes, train rides, snorkelling, island hopping, Asian food at cheap prices.

I came here to see Thailand, and stayed because I met a woman and had a child. We're leaving because the US is a much better place to raise a child, along with me able to better enjoy my hobbies.

You must be joking...surely? Their food looks terrible. You claimed they have everything the same as Thailand, but yet they use purple aubergine instead of Thai(white, green and pea). It's also clear that they use UHT coconut milk and substitute other ingredients. 516 baht for stir fried vegetables with chicken breast. Bargain 😊 You must really live in the middle of nowhere if you cannot find food better than that.

Of course you can find good food there. But there is also a lot of cr@p food, due to the lax and corrupt food standards in the USA. Unfortunately the poorer people have to eat that every day.

Given that restaurant writes "paht" instead of "pad" I would avoid them. I've never seen a Thai restaurant in the west write it that way and the sound is all wrong. Imagine ordering Part Thai lol

Massaman is $16US which is about 516 baht. Ban Krut sells it for 50 baht beachfront. Fred has never been to Ban Krut (another correct fact not assumption)

They would mostly be using pastes and sweeten it up for western palate. Green curry in Thailand is always more sour if authentic restaurant in Bangkok. Patong and Sukhumvit have the fake green curries like America.

Pastes aren't abnormal. I pick some up at the wet markets, alongside freshly squeezed coconut milk. Season to taste. Slow cooked and certainly not with chicken breast 😊

I note fred's restaurant sells sushi too 😊 Authentic 😊

I must be that 0.1%, as we got more appliances than any one kitchen should have, even duplicates and a couple one purpose items. It's embarrassing.

Does expose again, that your not really a home cook, as 95% of my cooking is done on the hob, with 2 skillets (CI & SS), an egg pan, a small sauce pan and a flat griddle.

Wife uses the oven a lot, meal prepping. Me, just reverse searing beef, bread / pastry, and rare occasion, finish a pizza after crisping the bottom on the hob.

Small air fryer only gets used for crispy pork belly and salmon usually.

Agree, USA is great, but 25+ adult years there exploring many parts of, it was time for a change, so 25+ yr here in TH, is a nice change. Small ass country though. Challenge finding new & interesting, but somehow, we succeed.

Based in a really nice boring place works also. Retired (in TH), after being responsible parents, where we holiday'd the most. Pretty hard to beat, for a place to live most of the year.
