Live in your delusion, most Americans do which is why you believe the USA is the centre of the universe. It is legitimate yes but it is a variation of correct English

I would counter that the English have their own issues with the spoken language. Case in point:

They correct me for NOT saying it that way and I say it the way it’s written in Thai script.

I'll be damned - Google translate confirms that:

He does hire them also, as well as some from Cameroon and the Philippines, as any

Your friend hires them (from the Philippines) because they are cheap, (from Cameroon) because they are very cheap. The accents, especially from Cameroon are virtually incomprehensible. There are rules about qualifications required, and salaries to be paid and the amount of "classroom time" to get the requisite work permits, but the agents who supply the teachers get around that.

Why can't Aussies say Pat-ta-yah instead of Pt-ayea?

Except of course for the dialects every 25 miles.

Agreed. I’m Scottish so English is in fact my second language 😄

The teachers from Cameroon speak very good English, with an English accent, as their teachers in Cameroon were also from the UK. There was only one from the Philippines I met, who spoke good English, of course sounding Filipino.

Both wrong though. It is Paat-ta-yah or just say Pat-tahs

Americans use Middle English and pronounce French words like the French.

Brits use Modern English and pronounce French words like the English.

There is no such thing as American or any other "sort" of English, there is English or just a variation of English.

Easy to look up, many links available, and I knew this decades ago. I go by facts, am not prejudiced in any way, and give credit where it's due. Americans adopted and adapted for their own, just as the Brits did long ago from Germanic tribes.

Pa-ta-YAH... 😉

No guessing needed. So from where does American pronunciation get its influence?

Actually, American English is older English. It is what the English used to speak. In the 18th century, the English started changing the language. They started dropping the r's to sound more posh. American English started incorporating indigenous languages at about the same time.

Paat is the start. Hat Yai is Haat Yai. Roll the A.

People really need to get a life if they are watching YouTubers wandering aimlessly around Pattaya and Jomtien and being concerned how things are pronounced.

Still better than those who call it "Patts"

Who are we to question Barry Upton, his song was PATtaya, PATtaya.

English in Cornwall is completely different from Geordie, Scouse or Yorkshire accent, 'ee by gum!.

The point is that cowboys speak distorted slang while Brits speak real English...

So please compare comedians Jethro and Chubby Brown's accents.

There is no wrong English but different varieties. Watching too many cowboy movies, where the speaking is intentionally made to sound a certain way, doesn't take away that they are still speaking English. Slangs and accents are all over, many different ones, including in the UK as you know. Listen to how an English singer speaks, and then sings. The accent is almost removed, and they sound almost like Americans. ............https://www.cambridge.org/elt/blog/2020/02/24/no-such-thing-as-standard-english/
