I have an increasing waistline from eating and drinking and lack of exercise. I wouldnt say Im obese but I can see if I dont change my habits I could end up worse in a few years. I am contemplating a meal replacement shake for lunch instead and eating less so I can gradually come down in size. Im not overly concerned about the weight, but I am about the fat. I will start regime of walking and biking to get my metabolism up.

So, can anyone suggest a meal replacement shake that tastes good and works. I did try the Amway one with orange flavouring but that didnt taste so good.

thanks

For a great healthy meal replacement try "Nutreun....spelt wrong" it's in most tescos, tops and Villas. It's very cheap and made by Nestle.

It's usually in the baby section or mother's milk area.

Also for a nice change get on the menshealth website and search for smoothies

Hi Donny:

Wow, u does try Amway before? That's a great product. I actually got friend in other company, they also have something like it, but the flavour is more like soya flavour, wanna try it?

Her compnay is called WBG. I don't know what they called in Thailand, coz i'm in Malaysia now. The product call Hunza Enhancer Pro, it will give me the full feeling, and it also contain lot of others nutriens. It help to reduce our absortion of sugar and carbohhydrates, improve our metabolism which burn the fat away and improve the complexion. It is a natural ingredient, and contain also the essent of Cryptomonadales (King of Algea) which trade mark as Indinine. Next week i'll attach to you the nutrition sheet of it, i need to scan it..

Beside that i would like to suggest you to go gym if u not intent to size down just to change your fat to muscle... Or you can try to replace you dinner with just juice from fruit, 4 carrot + green apple no sugar no ices.

I don't believe in prepackaged "weight loss" products. For one thing they are massively expensive considering the nutritional value they offer. And vey few people I know who have used them have been able to exercise strenuously or have kept the weight off after they stopped using them.

I drink half this shake every morning before my workout (intense weight training 3 days and high intensity interval cardio 2 days) and the other half just after:

cook 2 heaping tablespoons oatmeal, put in blender with one container natural no fruit low fat yogurt, 250ml 0% fat milk, a banana, one scoop whey protein powder.

Here are some others:

Ultimate Power Shake

1 cup 0% milk

2 tablespoons low-fat vanilla yogurt

¾ cup instant oatmeal, nuked in water

2 teaspoons peanut butter

2 teaspoons chocolate whey powder

6 ice cubes, crushed

Strawberry Field Marshall Shake

½ cup low-fat vanilla yogurt

1 cup 0% milk

2 teaspoons peanut butter

1 cup frozen strawberries

2 teaspoons whey powder

6 ice cubes, crushed

Banana Split Shake

1 banana

½ cup low-fat vanilla yogurt

1/8 cup frozen orange juice concentrate

½ cup 0% milk

2 teaspoons whey powder

6 ice cubes, crushed

that looks like a great suggestion and very do-able as I can get all those items in the supermarket- not sure about the peanut butter thou, as its loaded with fat.

And where does one find Slimfast in Thailand?

I prefer the plain flavour and add fresh fruit.

Cheers

Fat free yogurt and fresh/frozen fruit mixed using a stick blender and powdered protein will do everything these premade things will but is a lot healthier and cheaper.

I completely agree.

Though I now prefer the taste of Body Ripped Whey Protein (Vanilla) mixed with fat free milk and a banana.

The Body Ripped brand though more expensive seems to mix with liquids better and more palatably, though its more expensive than other brands.

Cheers

Tired of the bad whey protein sold in BKK, optimum and GNC brands, I imported some high quality protein. 4 pounds of Nitrotech Hardcore, 64 servings per container, 3600 baht. Its expensive, but still cheaper than GNC. Its more expensive than Optimum Nutrition, but you get what you pay for.

Send a reply if you want to buy. 3600 baht

I sell 10 lbs of optimum at 5000 baht if you recalculate it your protein is around 9000 bt per 10 lbs that makes it twice as expensive. I highly doubt its twice as potent.

People should remember protein powders are a supplement and should never be the main source of protein.

I have tried heaps of replacement shakes before and it is really hard to stay on them because its the same thing over and over again. Why not try to find out the real reason you are fat and become thin for life. Take a look below it might help. All the best :)

I dont think shakes at least not the ones im talking about are for replacement. I use it to supplement my dieet.

I agree, protein is a supplement. but your math is misleading. 10 pounds of optimum nutrition should have 110 servings @ 5000 baht is 45 baht per serving. I am selling 64 servings of a better protein for 56 baht per serving. it is nowhere near double price, it is what you would expect to pay for higher quality.

And optimum has 160 servings in a bag according to them. But why compare servings if you can compare raw weight.

My math is correct 4 pounds x 2,5 = 10 pounds correct or not ?

so your price = 3600 x 2,5 = 9000 for a 10 pound bag correct

so 10 pound bag of optimum = 5000 and your 10 pounds would be 9000

that makes it almost 2 times as expensive per gram of protein

Math is not hard.. and im an accountant by trade so im good at math

you cant compare raw weight when they are not the same product. They also contain different amount of protein per serving by weight. quality of protein is more about delivery method, not all proteins are created equally.

I stand corrected on the number of servings, ON has 155 servings.

your numbers are right, your reasoning is not.

Depends how much better your stuff really is, thing is it could be 10% maybe i doubt you build twice as much muscle with it.

Problem is with this stuff you just cant prove how much more effective it is. Same as i cant prove how much more effective optimum is as protein from chicken. In the end it all maters not much and usually isnt worth the extra cash.

I use a protein shake as a supplement when i have to deliver building blocks in a certain time. That is kinda hard to do with normal proteins. But then if we compare what you offer with optimum i doubt it builds twice as much muscle. So is the price justified.. i don't think so but that is up to the buyers in the end.

In the end its the buyers who decide after reviewing all the pro's and con's. For me as a buyer it would not be worth the extra money. But im sure there are for who its worth it.

If you ask top bodybuilders what the most important supplement to be on it would not be whey protein.....it would be l-glutamine....also comes in a powder and you only need between 10 and 30 grams a day...Skeletal muscle is mostly made up of glutamine I think the figure is around 65%. When it comes to using whey powder , they are not all the same by any means a lot of them contain way to much carbohydrate to help lose any fat....

22 years ago, my mother brought some white powder named Protein 88 back from hospital where she worked as pharmacist. I froze orange juice and mixed that with the powder in a semi-frozen state.

It filled me up and tasted good. But then, watch out for inferior protein powder with much lower protein content. www.bodybuilding.com has further info and links. Shop around!

Another thing - make sure you drink plentuy before any meal and take your time. I have a bad habit of eating really fast...

quality of protein is more about delivery method, not all proteins are created equally.

So you would pay twice as much for a 'delivery method', which is what? Some dextrose or malto? Available for about one US dollar per pound, and in any event, completely unnecessary. Sounds like you've been well and truly duped by the industry, kiddo. And FYI the best quality protein comes from an egg.

You really need to shop around to find quality protein. Local prices are beyond what I'm willing to pay. So I would suggest you boil 2 dozen eggs and throw away the egg yello.

Look for whey protein and not the diluted junk with 50 or 60%, but like 88%.

Then check whether the stuff makes you break wind, an indication that you are not fully digesting it.

I can recommend shakes with frozen fruit juce and vanilla taste. It might not be suitable calory wise for a diet, but tastes delicious and takes away the hunger.

When you compare prices, check out www.bodybuilding.com (no affiliation)

I agree about the site problem is the moment you import it you get hit by 60% tax. I used to sell proteins here in Thailand but now the supply dried up a bit and i only made a lil bit on it. So its not worth my hassle anymore.

But in Thailand chicken is cheap.. so stock up on it.. and there is plenty of pork too (low fat pork parts) Same with eggs good proteins.

I do still use protein powders in a shake but a bit less since i started eating oats in milk heated by the mircrowave with some cinnamon as breakfast. Fills me up good gives me good carbs and fibers.

With the crazy price of most supplements I don't know why anyone buys most of them. Just eat real food. Unless someone is a juiced 250 lb pro bodybuilder having trouble trying to eat 500g a day of protein then they should be able to meet most their needs through real food. If I buy something it is because it is difficult to get enough through normal eating like essential fats or magnesium.

I was at a GNC last week. B2800 for 500g of creatine. Same thing in the USA goes for $10 = B320 and better quality. I can buy like 10kg of decent steak for the difference in price. Insane!

That is why you need to know the right persons to get the supplements. I don't pay GNC prices i get my protein 10 lbs for around 4000 bt. But i only take it as a post workout shake. The rest i get from meat and other stuff

Yes its WHEY Protein from optimum nutrition. I get it from a friend but there are others selling it too. There is even on some Thai website cheaper protein (but a lot more i believe 20kg) but that is without a flavor. And if your doing Euro's in Europe (Holland its even cheaper). I get most of my protein from my normal food, but i use this as an addition (hence the name supplement) after a heavy workout.
