My wife complains I just sit on the sofa all day (when I come basck from my morning 15Km cycle ride).

I ask her what her 73yo mother does all day, and what she expects a 70yo guy to do?

Your wife may be hinting she needs more bonking.

You don't really need goals if you're retired.

Nothing "shallow" about sports and sex.

Who is "deep" and has a "deep life" that you know besides Leo Tolstoy? And this guy is so deep, no one can barely understand what he's talking about anyway.

I think you are depressed. That lifestyle you have would never create happiness. It is Ground Hog Day. 30 years to go. No aims. No purpose. Surrounded by sexpats.

All heterosexual relationships are fake, some people just don't understand that.

If you ain't got something they want, they ain't gonna f@#$ you.

Applies equally to hookers, girlfriends and wives!

I would say your personality counts a lot more with Western women than with Thai women.

Some are less fake than others.

Around the late 1870s, at the age of 50, Leo Tolstoy fell into a severe depression and existential crisis. Despite having achieved worldwide literary fame (War and Peace, Anna Karenina), immense wealth, social status, and a large family, he found himself overwhelmed by a complete loss of meaning in life.

So tell us your goal.

To save Middle Earth?

Are you a Hobbitt, by any chance?

Same as you, except you bypassed the fame and social status part.

Yeah but back then there was no music, books were expensive, no movies or tv shows, little in the way of international travel, so being bored would have been fairly common.

In comparison the average western pensioner today is incomparibly more wealthy than the rich and titled of the 1800s.

Western women are more depressed than Thais. Thais live in the moment aka Zen. WW are gossip moles who run down men and hate younger Asian women. I get dirty looks from them in lifts sometimes when with gf. But who would want to date a washed up 60yo white woman? 80kgs of nagging.

It is best to rewrite your goals monthly. Having a 2 month target drives you forward.

Living in Rai you could do the Nan and MHS loops 5 times each.

OK I'll bite where is the Nan loop?

Main loop is Rai-Phayao-Nan-Pua- Chiang Kham-Rai. Side loop is Bo Kluea.

Less touristy than MHS. Great roads.

Most in the 1800s were working hard to survive. No time for boredom. Modern tech makes life easy and people are more lazy so boredom is more common now.

But why do you need to keep looping around in the first place?

Why can't you stay in one place?

A rolling stone gathers no moss?

Because it is fun. Watching TV or reading politics everyday is not much fun. It also creates memories.

But we were discussing Leo Tolstoy, one of the rich and famous.

And there was nothing for them to do.

Jordan Peterson is rich and famous. He suffers from depression. He could do 100 things. So maybe it is excess thinking that causes depression. That's what Tolle says who had depression for 10 years.

Most of us don't need goals, certainly not once retired. What is your job? that's where you should have goals, presumably you are embarrassed by it because you never admit it

Everybody has goals. Cycling is a goal of yours. Avoiding stds is another. Living in Patts is another.

Living rent free in your head even when you are on holiday with your girlfriend in your "former" dream destination. Quite telling Rocky. Oh wait....🤣🤣🤣, there you go Rocky boy enjoy your telephone and arguing today.

Don't confuse happiness with contentment.

I'm older, have lived in Thailand 20+ years, Isan, Bangkok, now Jomtien. I don't go around every day with a big grin but that does not mean I'm unhappy. What I am is content. At my age and with the financial resources I have, I can not imagine a place where I would rather be.

I have a small circle of good friends. I avoid the casual barstool groups with the daily dose of same-old. I have some women friends but no girlfriend, no dependants.

I sit at my favorite coffee shop opposite the beach, observe the breeze blowing through the palms, listen to the casual chatter around me and wonder how I got this lucky.

Without me and Trump what would you do? Just weeding I suppose. I have plans for the next 10 years. You won't even last that long. Wasting your final years worrying about a stranger. When you drop dead some other lefty will replace you.

What would you do if you got injured and could not cycle or play golf? No hobbies, no job. It is pretty easy to get injured in a road accident as a cyclist.

Have you never thought about that?

What if in 5 years time you get sick of Patts what will you do? No job to go to. Lost ties with the west.

I'm all out of ''words of wisdom'' to offer, used them many times before and to write again' some might mistaken me for a parrot, only this, don't come to places like Thailand with high hopes or what you hear on social media, look around and try to adasp as best as you can, no magic tricks and a certain way to go about thing, it's you against the surrounding, and for a piece of minds, be calm, curtiest, friendly and non conformational and you will live well wherever spot on earth you will be.

So another 30 years of golf is your plan?
