Expectations Vs Reality

I have been "retired" to Pattaya now for about a year. I wanted to post a little about my expectations moving in vs the reality of being here (without writing a book). Each point listed below is numbered in the expectations category vs the reality. You can reply with your own down below if you would like to contribute to the list.

Expectations

1. A young socially vibrant scene in an upscale condo building.
2. A nice pool with many young women swimming and sunbathing & having fun.
3. People around in the evening & night partying and drinking.
4. Women open to conversation and being friendly outside of an "arrangement" setting or venue.
5. People from all over the world visiting and interacting in a relaxed casual manner.
6.. A lot of India type guys who are not very friendly outside of their own group.

Reality

1. An older scene with many retired single guys that are not very social. Building & facilities are good and upscale.
2. A small handful of the same guys (50 - 60ish) meeting daily to bob up & down in the water together.
3. It's quiet with people in their rooms. Many of the rooms seem empty with lights off in one of the newest/best buildings in the area.
4. Freelancers looking at their phones who shun eye contact or simple greetings in the elevator.
5. Older guys kind of just sitting around in various venues not saying much and not really having much to say.
6.. A lot of India type guys who are not very friendly outside of their own group.

It just increasingly seems to me that it's not a happy casual place. You do have the high octane nightlife, women and company in nightlife areas but it only seems to happen under that particular umbrella where there is an obvious financial gain there, not as a natural interaction. I hope I am making sense.

Number one I dont live in Nonthaburi. Number two stop trolling all the time tourist. You really are astonishingly lame. Dont pretend to know about a culture when you know zip. Thank you.

I know more than you do. You can barely speak the language. You cut n paste Thai photos from the net. Such a fake. My photos from Thailand are all mine. You make laugh with the crap you post.

Who cares if someone can barely speak the language?

I don't care. He claims to be an expert on Thai culture but gets shown up daily. Fake photos. Did not know Lad Na was a common term. The guy keeps embarrassing himself.

How can anyone get to know a city in just one day?

He stays 2 nights in most. Normally you need a week or more but he focuses on town centre. It is not gospel. Just an intro.

If I flew people I know from Santa Cruz in here right now I doubt they would want to stay long term, though they would have a good time for a week or so.

The values and interactions are just not here

....

and they can't be changed.

Yep, if you flew people from Pattaya to Santa Cruz right now they probably WOULD want to stay long term.
Pattaya is a proper <deleted> hole in comparison.

Even top chefs like to eat McDonalds now and again but maybe best not to move in FT.

Again a wrong answer from a tourist. Get to a local wet market early in the morning. Great deals on food and the view is nice as well.

Many pretty Cambodian girls in Ratanakorn market, Pattaya, but the Cambodian men don't like them being friendly

Nonsense... They just aren't interested in old men. I've seen one with a foreign boyfriend. Rather than an old man thinking that he is entitled to flirt with young women.

Wrong, they are very friendly to begin with, next time cold as a fish, someone's had a word, happens all the time there, the Cambodian men in the background don't like it, ask them

Naturally socially friendly , but back away when they realise that you just want to have sex with them

Friendly cause they want you to buy stuff. Then you become a customer don't need to be so friendly. You have not had a gf in 15 years so easily fooled by a smile. That's what happens to mongers. Delusional.

Not at all, I'm not a sleazy farang like you, I'm just being friendly, nothing more, no interest in trying to get a date with them

Yeah sure

What makes you say that I am sleazy ?

Yes. Sure.

You use p4p every week and for years. You take prep.

You guys can't accept the reality, the Cambodian men don't like their girls being friendly to foreigners who are a potential threat

Just now, Rockyroad said:

yeah but that's irrelevant to the point

Is it? I thought the definition of sleazy was regular p4p.

Maybe you are a freak of nature, no threat at all to the men

Nah i don't try and do the slippery sleazy thing like you and chat girls up in shops etc, embarrassing, this is why girls have farang fatigue

Staff are often friendly. Does not mean flirting and sex.

I talk to them in normal speech. They sometimes hit on me.

You mongers get the signals mixed up.

Is this yet another discussion about older felang men and their interactions with female Asian shop assistants ?

What is the reason why they don't like you then ?

Looks sleazy, men constantly hitting on girls in 7 eleven etc, they are fed up with it

I already have a normal girlfriend, so not seen as a slimy foreigner.

They probably do but i don't ever try and chat them up, just friendly
