Hi all,

Is there a way to check if a torrent you download is working?

I end up with a lot of downloads that are not working.

Thanks and kind regards

No way to check before downloading!

I've about 5% bad but mainly everything is working! But I think it's also about what you downloading!

After some experiences I use uTorrent only for downloading, it's a very small client and fast as well!

One thing you should do: setup/open the right port in your router that helps alot!

I think you need to explain what you mean by "working", e.g.

Are you connected to any peers or seeds?

Are you getting any bytes coming down at all?

Is it stuck on 99% downloaded?

What client are you using?

Good sites like Meganova have sections that list verified torrents. They also have an easy method for users to report bad files which helps weed them out quicker.

i use mininova, and you just look at the comments section before d/loading, they are usually good for an indication of quality.

What "not working" mean exactly?

There are infected torrents out there but it's not the most efficient way to spread viruses or spam. There are also fake torrents that either plug a movie trailers or specific players that need to be downloaded, or are password protected. They are harmless unless you actually go and download some unknown program.

Fake torrents that I encountered were the movies ahead of their actual release (either as cam or a rip), and, reportedly, some are uploaded by movie studios themselves to entice people to go to cinemas instead.

If you can read and understand torrent file names, you could sniff out fakes easily.

Cam, ts, screener, r5, dvdrip - all these words actually mean a lot when taken in context and a movie goes through these stages in logical sequence. Anything out of the ordinary is likely to be a fake.

If you are afraid of fakes, just be a little patient and don't rush to be the first to download something , bad torrents are usually removed in about a day on reputable sites.

Good advice!

I use torrentz site, which is a multi-tracker search facility, and the registered users are pretty good when it comes to posting warnings about fake torrents, etc.
