I would like to use my DTAC happy phone outside thailand, but it appears that i need a work permit (which i dont have).

Is there a reason why you dont want to use a sim card for the country you go to? Its a lot cheaper than paying roaming charges.

I took my phone AIS pay as you go to India with me last week, set it to roam and it worked fine, although very expensive. It cost me 30Bht to send a text!

Both mine and my gf's AIS pay as you go sims worked in the UK last month. Didn't use them to see how expensive it was though.

Just call 1175 and tell them to turn on international roaming.. Mine works overseas..

had a look at the www.digi.com.my site and a lot cheaper. rm8.50 to get a sim card with 5rm credit. seems the way to go.

Unclear as to why dtac/ais want work permit if i have bank accounts / debit cards here and 1 year non imm visa. They could always preload the phone and that would prevent me using more than that amount if they were really worried.

Call them up and have them turn on international roaming, works for prepaid, but expensive.
