Cold Spell Grips Northern Areas

Chiang Rai _ A cold spell has gripped the northern region, including Chiang Rai, while more flash floods and run-offs are expected to hit the South, say weathermen. Many residents in Chiang Rai were seen wearing warm clothes yesterday due to the cooler weather. The lowest temperature was recorded at 18.8C.

That northern region includes us ChiangMai-ites. The partner and I were wondering last night if winter is already arriving. Still 31 degree afternoons, but cooler nights. Maybe the rain will stop soon, too.

This morning it is warm, as there is little cloud cover - only haze. Whoops, controversial word there, sorry.

The rainy season is unlikely to be over for another month (but one never knows...)...

and there's usually a gap between it and the cold time.

Many locals wear warm clothing at the least provocation. Whether (weather?) this has anything to do with the 3-layers worn frequently by actors on thai TV, one can only guess. My wife says, in the hills one will have a fire to warm up by...

Definitely had a couple of cool nights but last night back to normal. Suspect rain tonight, we sat out side for a while after getting back from Mae Sai and there was a definite atmospheric weather shift.

Thais have an expected median temperature of about 78 degrees F (I don't think in Centigrade).

If it's a couple degrees above, they say it's hot - a tiny bit below , they say it's cold.

It hasn't been cold here in C.Rai. It's been a slight bit cool compared to the median temp of this time of year.

For a people with such sensitivity to a couple of degree shift up or down, I wonder how the Thai climbing team is going to handle Everest.
