Need A Small Translation Favor

Featured Replies

In having an E-Mail conversation with a nice Thai friend, she says she has a "lum-yai" garden. We were able to both understand "potato" but I am lost on what lum-yai is..... :o

Google is a wonderful thing, so I wonder if this is correct?

Yes, that's "Lum Yai" ลำไย. (Mai ma lai, not Mai moo-an with Yai. Lost of Thais also tend to misspell.) I love "Num Lum Yai" (Lum yai juice).

Lum Yai is a small round fruit, brown in colour.

Sometimes called Longan in the translation books

T'is the lamyai season as we speak. Price is so low that many small orchards are not bothering to harvets the fruit.

It is always called longan when translated into English on cans. Best eaten fresh after chilled.
