Was a very nice way to end the day to see something uplifting like that.

I really hate these bloody sob stories on talent shows. Simon Cowell's shows all revolve around this bloody human interest side. It's like I was cleaning out my dead budgies cage and I saw an application form for the x factor and I thought I would apply. Oh, don't forget the soft focus and sad song in the background.

I only want one thing from talent shows - the chance to laugh and mock people with even less talent than I have!

This isn't a Mr Angry rant. I genuinly find those sob stories so annoying it's all I can do to stop myself from putting my foot through the TV screen.

with regards to shows like Idol and X factor, I must say... Oo-er I MUST say, that I do agree with Grumpy Sai Dad... (You been getting any sleep lately DSK? )

Most people I know have gotten into watching these shows but I'm an optimistic guy, I like to think it's cos of lack of alternative viewing.

It's IMO very sad and demoralising that so many people watch these shows (including many good people I know).

btw, I find it difficult to use the abbreviation for In My Opinion, cos those are the initials of my niece.

I find anybody else on the entire WWW using this I am gonna charge fee's (for a scolarship for her of course)

er..i must be a bit off in the head cuz when i read that guys name the first thing i thought was..'i wonder what Cambodians would make of that name'.

Possible scenario:

Cambodian Hotel staff member: "Can I please have your name Sir?"

Paul potts: "Paul Potts"

Cambodian Hotel staff member: (looking a bit startled) "Pardon?"

Paul Potts: "Erm..Paul Potts."

..wonder what would be goin through the Cambodians mind....or what may befall Mr.Potts on a Cambodian holiday...

In the UK these talent shows are nothing but constant stream of hard-luck stories.

(on a side note... What I do find extremely in poor taste, is the audience screaming and clapping during the guy's performances. Very poor audience behaviour and spoils the performance of what is otherwise a tremendously talented singer.)

Yeah Kayo, it is a fantastic performance without a doubt - it touched me as well, but after you've seen it, doesn't it make you cringe a little the way they've obviously constructed a false myth around the guy and how they play a cheesy tune as background music during the first part?

Considering the guy already had a singing career going (apparently he has studied with Pavarotti amongst other things) isn't it a bit lame of them to portray him as a mere 'mobile phone salesman from the country'?

Nobody who has not trained for years and years will be able to sing like that. You're a musician, you know how it works.

Nonetheless, I think it is great that someone with his level, and particular brand of talent makes it on this sort of show, for a change to all the Britney/Justin timberlake wannabees.
