Where To Buy Real Canon Cameras In Bangkok

Featured Replies

Hi all

I want to buy myself a canon g9 or canon a720is camera when I'm on holiday in Bangkok. I don't want to be conned into buying a rip off that ends up breaking a week later. I want the proper product. Unfortunately, I wont know the culture or what to look out for and will be a stupid tourist from South Africa.

Where would the best place be to buy genuene Canon products? If I see a Canon G9 in a small store, what are the odds that it is a rip off?

Thanks for the help

Odds are basically zero that it is a rip-off.

You could spot it from a mile away.

Try fotofile in MBK Center, 3d floor and they have on the ground floor also. If you are a bit more intrepid, and want to go further out for cheaper (Though im not sure if they speak any English, or if they sell point and shoots) there is the pro photo shop out on Sukhumvit Soi Udom Suk, and also a pro photo shop on Soi Suanplu, though im pretty sure they dont sell point and shoots.

Unless you are offered a scruffy Canon out of a dusty bag from a pavement vendor with a shifty smile and a parrot on their shoulder, you will be OK (a parrot is always a warning sign).

You will find Canon cameras in stores all over Thailand; chains like "Big Camera" for example have plenty of choice and reasonable prices. All the larger malls will have at least one outlet selling cameras.

You will get a Canon warranty, just check whether it is an international warranty or a Thailand only warranty, seems to vary depending on which camera or lens you are buying.

Have fun, there is plenty to point a lens at here!

Thanks. That is very good to hear.

The only dissapointing part of my trip is that I'm going past Bangkok last and won't have my camera for Krabi and Koh Lanta.

I cant wait though.

Thanks again

If it is a very expensive camera, there are a limited number of places that stock them. The models you are looking for should be available in many places around Thailand. I live in Pattaya and noticed the G9 in a shop this week.

Thanks. I came right in Panthip plaza. WOW.... we don't have anything like that in South Africa.

  • 1 month later...

Standard price is 18900 baht - which is less than the old price for the G7 - let me know if you find it significantly cheaper!
