Well i have posted before vbecause i was stuck with what to do about coming to Thailand and starting up a little shop or some sort of business

To save my self all the hassle would it be easier to let my GF do this and just use my money to do so??!!

i hear you all screaming NOOOOOOO because so many guys get burtny by thai girls etc etc

i trust my gf enough to give her the money to start up her own little shop

please guys im not here for advice on woman so don't mention any of that shit

think we all know about stickman.com for those stories

so how is this?

go to Thailand looking round for a nice little property to RENT, once we found the one we want my GF sort all the documents blah blah blah and then we do what we want from there?

i know that if a falang gets caught working in the wrong type of thing then he will get his nuts chopped off by the friendly police man..however all this will be in my gf's name so therefore NOTHING to do with me..apart from me sleeping in there and hanging around stuff like that

so who's gonna be the first to grill me on how much shit i have just typed???

come on guys how is this REALLY sounding?

:o

How do you plan to support yourself? You are not supporting anyone so no visa on that. No investment visa. No business visa. Are you going to be a walker? If so you may need to provide a source of outside funds at any time. Are you going to count on multi entry visa from a consulate in your home country every year? Remember to fund for that and 90 days trips.

Without trying to be negative how long with the relationship last if you become deadwood? How long can you live like that? If you do any work you risk everything. The culture is that the man will support the wife so you will not be appreciated by many.

There is a 3 million baht investment type visa program that seems to have been dusted off so if I were in your position I would try very hard to become covered by it before making the move. Or set up a business as is so often done.

But we are really talking in the dark here as you have not provided many details. Are you real or just trolling?

Basically i am doing this for my GF

i am going to be doing some teaching to make sure i have some sort of income

and also i have something set up here at home that will provide me with money aswell

Visa isn't going to be my main problem as anybody can get a tourist visa and it's not exactly rocket science to cross a border

but if i have a visa for 1 year from teaching then it will be all good

and also i'm not doing this to try and be a millionaire i'm doing to to provide something for my gf

if she can work in the shop and me working as a teacher between us we will have enough money to get by on

so really, how is that so stupid?

keep your comments to your self if u know your being a dick head!

All i am trying to do is get advice

you realise how hard that is when nearly all the people on these forums are like you?!

I still don't understand why people act like this

it is a serious question in which i needed serious advice

All i am asking is?

if my gf rented a shop with my money is it against the law for me to be there in the shop while she works or not?

would the police be a little suspicious that the girl who just opened the shop has a western bf?

i wouldn't be doing any work in there at all

Yes, I realize that, TIT (This Is Thailand)
I still don't understand why people act like this

This is the Wild East (Opposite of the Wild West)

I understand! (By the way, there are a few law firms busy promoting themselves on this forum)
if my gf rented a shop with my money is it against the law for me to be there in the shop while she works or not?

No, it is not against the law! (as long as you don't work in the place)

would the police be a little suspicious that the girl who just opened the shop has a western bf?
No, they don't care as long as you don't do anything illegal
i wouldn't be doing any work in there at all

Good of you, 'cause if you do, you'd go to the slammer! :o

See that wasn't so hard was it now?

i knew you could give some NICE and FRIENDLY advice

So would it be counted as working lets say for example

my gf opens up a clothes shop but we BOTH go together to buy the clothes and i help her transfer the goods from one place to another

is that counted as "working"?

Personally, if I was in a position to start a little business I would probably go for a little shophouse restaurant selling Thai dishes. That way you're not dependent on only tourism. I've never been to Koh Pang Ngan so I don't know about the best locations.

Remember, if there's no tourists for whatever reason, Thai people will still have to eat. :o Not much advice I know, but apart from that I wish you good luck.

You were just lucky, I just had a beer and was in a good mood, happens only once a month.

That's working according to the law
is that counted as "working"?

Yes, but you are in a "grey" area now.

I've never been to Koh Pang Ngan

Sorry Gazza, but where did you read about this?

I know, I am a dick-head - Mr. Cornflakes told me so.

I must be, after all, I have lived here as a professional corporate business trainer for twenty years... that absolutely must make me a dick-head, a non-value for this forum.

Really JW if you must participate try and pay attention, the original poster had mentioned Ko Phan Ngan and a shop there on another thread , Gazza was merely stating he had never been there. Jeez where do they get you Corporate guys from? :o

I didn't call u a dick head because you lived there for 20 years or have the best job in the world

Cornflakes -

If you want to give your Thai gf money to open a shop - no problem. You may invest in anyone in Thailand that you see fit. If she operates as a sole proprietor, you are legally out of the picture. If you want to 'hang around' as a loitering customer, no problem - particularly if you have a work permit from a real teaching job.

If you help her start a Thai Private Co. Ltd, you can be a shareholder, and also a director of her firm. You can then hang around to protect your investment, or to exercise unpaid directorship services.

What you don't want to be doing is manning a cash register, or negotiating with vendors. These are activities where you could possibly get into a dispute with a customer, who then convices police that you are working illegally in a customer service or similar role.

Good luck!

I would say posting this same question 4 times on this site as well as on other web boards today gives us some reason to be less than happy with you.

I think u need to shit the ###### up for a moment

what is wrong with posting something on the internet to try and find out some answers?

does it REALLY matter to you personally if i have posted more than once?

nobody made you read my post

on this site or any other site

so keep your mouth shut

Cornflakes, your wasting your time cussing out these socalled advice givers as they live to be slagged off and make one line comments.

To awnser part of your question be careful of where you set up shop. If your girl opens a bar in Pattaya or a business in a popular place and you dont have correct paperwork you probably wont be around long. the main people you will have problems with is other falang as they get jealous if you do business without papers and they have spent a bunch of money for theirs. If you open a little restraunt in a Thai village where her family lives you can eat there and hang out with grandma and drink beer or cook your own food or whatever. If you plan on making a bunch of money and competing with the locals in any industry even if it is small you need get a bunch of paperwork.

You got the lingo right so you might have some success as a teacher.

Regarding the shop no problem. Your GF can rent or do something in the market whatever she likes. The fact that you pay for it is up to you; maybe it works out fine or maybe not.
