80,000 expats? Thats either a massive over-statement or a mistranslation.

I don't think theres that many in BKK and Chiang Mai put together.

I think they class an expat as someone staying in Phuket more than 2 weeks rather than 6 months+++

We were in Phuket 3weeks ago, visiting friends{Thai and Expat} with a view to buying 1 or 2 investment properties,we were amazed at the amount of expat businesses on the island and of course the numerous time share touts!! , to say that Patong is way ahead of pattaya in the sleaziness stakes would be an under statement :D and what about all the Indians and other Mahatma coats do they count as expats too, must of them are Refugees from Bradford and Wigan :D .No wonder the thai.s are slowly changing their attitude towards expats :o Nignoy

Does The Number Of Expats In Phuket ..., sount right ....?

With more violence in Phuket and also against foreigners living in Phuket what looks best to the outside world, i.e. Police cannot make a few expats feel safe or so many expats living in Phuket these days that Police cannot manage to keep them safe!

I think aside from indians and bermeses, phuket hardly has more than 10,000 Exapt who stay more than 6 months a year, Greater Bangkok (include patumthani, nontaburi,......) is at least 15 times more than phuket
