Hotmail + Windows Live Mail = Not Working...... M$ Screw-up?

Hello :o

A while ago when everyone seemed to have trouble logging on to Hotmail, it was working just fine for me, both the web version as well as downloading the mail to the computer via Windows Live Mail Desktop (beta).

But as of yesterday, Windows Live Mail Desktop does only show the subjects, jet seems to be unable to download the messages themselves.

I already updated the program to the (meanwhile available) full version, but the problem is exactly the same, and it happens on both Windows Vista and Windows XP.

Web access to Hotmail (both accounts) is still no problem, and downloading via Office Outlook XP (both in XP and Vista) also works, however using the server stated in Outlook (which is different from the one in Windows Live Mail!) in Windows Live Mail still yields the exact same problem - subjects show up, but the messages themselves don't.

This appears to be a M$ problem (because it works with Outlook while i'm still on the same ISP etc) and i just wish to know if anyone else is affected by it, or just me. There is NO problem with other mail accounts such as G-Mail, it's ONLY Hotmail.

Best regards......

Thanh

Not sure all of your set up, but I beleave that use of outlook with hotmail will req. a paid service, when I sign up awhile back I started getting that message when I try to set up outlook.  Now everyone is being switched to live, but gmail is free for POP3/SMTP service.

Hello again.

If one is using Hotmail for a certain time, the account can be the "fee" one and still has the privilege to be used with Outlook, Windows Live Mail, Outlook Express etc. I have both Hotmail accounts for almost 9 years already and they are both working with that service.

I can download my mail using Outlook (from the "Office" package) just fine, and up to yesterday also with the Windows Live Mail Desktop application (which i believe was made extra for that purpose, as Vista's "Windows Mail" does not support Hotmail accounts at all).

However since yesterday, the Windows Live Mail Desktop will no longer download the mails, only the subject lines. It still SENDS mail thru Hotmail fine.

I hate to use Outlook as it is slow and simply sucks.

With kind regards.....

Thanh

is it that windows live mail desktop is still in Beta or something, or did you do a clean install (if you dowloaded and installed the beta version before ?) ? what windows live mail desktop does is to connect to the web based version of live hotmail so i don't think the ms server is the problem here (as you can do it fine from your web browser)

Maybe try to backup your mails now, uninstall the whole thing install it again ? (clear up cookies/internet temporary files in the meaning time)

I have had my hotmail address 1997 so ten years.  When I up graded to live for the install of messngar it cut off the outlook without a pay account, had to use web only.  They may treat users differant as a marketing thing.  They may start to cut off everyone?  maybe not.  I found the gmail with Kmail on my desktop looks the same as outlook for the most part and is working great.  As another topic note after 2pm today the internet from ToT has mostly been down for me, just came back online.

Hi :o

As i am not using Internet Explorer, "cookies" won't be a problem. I did NOT do a clean install when upgrading from the beta to the full version, i just had it update and it did it nicely - no issues.

Now i'm back home and just tried it and by now it works again......

So it was only a temporary mess-up on M$ site (by thye way there is a difference between the servers - the web based one is completely different from the one Windows Live Mail uses to "sync" the accounts.

But anyway it's working fine again :D Thanks all for the replies.

Best regards......

your Thanh
