I Want The Uk Google

Featured Replies

In my part of the world Google defaults to the German site.

How do I make it go to the UK one??

Just typing www,google.co.uk still defaults to the .de

I want to make this a permanent change so that I always go to the UK.

My browser is FireFox

Thanks

Click on TOOLS > Options > at the bottom it says 'Language' and 'Choose' box, click and set to UK.

OR from

www.google.de

you will see at the end of the SEARCH area on main screen >

Language Tools

Click it and then >

Use the Google Interface in Your Language > English UK

Looks a bit strange! I can open any Google site on any location without that they switch to an other! Have you try IE7 or Opera? And where you're if a german sites open at your comp?

Myself use Mozilla Firefox..

What have you set your 'Search' on ??........ I have google.th but the search is all in English and all text is in English. you can set it to be English and search all german sites 1st, or anywhere in the world for that matter.

I have tried all those tricks and with no effect.

When I type something in the Search box on the top right

off I go to the google.de site AGAIN.

Sure the messages are in English, but the sites offered are related

to a German user...........

Not what I want, especially when looking for items to buy.

When I am in India, I end up on the Indian Google site. :o

Thanks, that is a marginal improvement,

it now takes me to the US site, which is marginally better than the German.

I tried www.google.co.uk/ncr to see if that would give me a replacement cookie,

but I am still on the US site.

Well google display content based on your IP address (for the country) and from you default language preference...

If you want specific search from uk sites, try to append " uk" at the end of your searches, that might help more... Anyway i use google.com set to french, if i want really specific french results i go to google.fr and generally the first 2 page results are somewhat identical, it starts to change past the 3rd page though.

Now that you used the google.com/ncr (i did this to get rid of the default Thai google page), try to go to google.co.uk and start a query the result may really vary :o

Btw you "home page" is what ? google.de ? or is it just when you use the google searchbar in Firefox ?

The Google Search from Firefox is maybe depend on the location at the time Windows was installed.

To go around you need to install the Googlebar Lite Toolbar. To get the Toolbar click on Tools >Add-ons click on Get Extensions and type in the Search: Googlebar Lite Toolbar and install the extension.

After install you must restart Firefox but leave all sites open. After restarting you'll get a new Toolbar, click on the Arrow beside the G and click on Options. On the General Tab you can define the standard site you want to open all times.

That's all! Have fun

Cheers

Thanks.

Googlebar seems to have done the trick allowing me to select the UK version

but only for a search using the Google toolbar.

The Firefox search still takes me to the German site. :o

If that is based on IP address as Kyosuken suggests, the

Arabic or French would make more sense as I am in the Middle East.

No-one speaks German here.

In India I have a 15.xxx.xxx.xxx address, a class 1 network belonging to a major computer manufacturer,

but I must admit that the gateway will go direct into the Indian network
