In July 2006 I bought a ACER Notebook AS5504 Model for B44,000. I now want to upgrade. Will dealers accept this as a "trade in" against the purchase of another Notebook? What price could I expect to get if I just sell it to someone else?

Yes. Not much. Many dealers will refer you to the 2nd hand shops around - in any case, the dealers won't offer you more than the 2nd hand dealers. 2nd hand shops are also where you should check for a the price of a similarly configured machine - that's the fair price. The dealer will offer you much less of course, since they are assuming the risk for not sellling the machine or getting a lemon.

The fact that you will be buying a new notebook from a laptop dealer doesn't make them give you any more money for your old notebook. I suppose that's because their margins are already razor thin...
