Where To Get Thai Movies With English Subtitles..?

Featured Replies

Hello :o

Does anyone here know of a place where one can get THAI movies as shown in the cinemas here WITH ENGLISH SUBTITLES..? I am sick of seeing a really nice local movie in the theater and then waiting for the DVD only to find out it has, yet again, subtitles in Thai, Chinese, Korean, Malay and Yiddish but NO English. They show them WITH the English subtitles in the cinema, so it can't be too difficult to add those on a DVD too..??

Now i have been told that there are places that sell "Export" versions (apparently "limited edition") of the same movies with different subtitle sets, i.e. western languages.

Has anyone ever seen such place? I would appreciate some info :D

With best regards......

May to go the China Town: Klong Thom Market at Worachak Rd. Inside the Market Building and outside on the back the selling The "Export" versions!

I've been round and round with several distributors re: this topic. All I can recommend is that you look in the big, brand-name media shops (found in most malls here) and examine the DVD for details re: subs. This information is clearly spelled out on the package. It seems like ~ 75% have English subs, I'm talking about Thai films here, but invariably the films I see at festivals, which are shown with English subs, are released on DVD without the English subs.

That's because a lot of these 'cheap' movies end up on the grey market on Europe and America. They rather release them officially and charge full price.

75% is nonsense .... Maybe you'll find a few old releases but no recent ones.

That was my impression too - i have a whole bunch of Thai movie DVD's - and only TWO of them have ENGLISH subtitles included - and they are both rather old (Satree Leks part 1 and 2). All more recent ones that i have bought (Bang Ra Jan, Jan Da Ra, Suriyothai, The Dorm and some more that flee my mind now) have only various ASIAN subtitles - and one even HEBREW (of all languages!) but NO English.

It IS written on the package, yes - IN THAI (which i can't read). And more than once the seller (i use various branches of "Mang Pong" to get them) told me "Yes sir, English subtitle" and at home i found that this is NOT the case (by both my boyfriend translating what's printed on the package and by me playing the DVD and not finding any "English" option). I buy them anyway if there is no other option - some movies are good enough to watch even without understanding the dialogue.

I will have a look when i get to the Klong Thom market again (been there only once and found that it is a place where you can find excellent quality tools!), thank you very much for that hint.

With kind regards......

Maybe at Fortune Town/Tower on Rachada. On the 3rd floor they have many shops selling DVDs.

I've been looking for the Thai movie "The Tin Mine" for two years now (with English subtitles). Anyone see it? If so, please PM me. Thanks!

Me too!!!!!!!!

Haven't seen it at all - would buy even without subs! Have you seen it anywhere at all? Mang Pong doesn't have it...... Seen it in the cinema and loved it :o

Best regards.....
