Kubuntu Try Out

I got my download of Kubuntu and was looking forward to a test drive, but it will have to wait.

I don't want to install it on my main drive and its not a livecd with option to install where I like.

I was going to install it on the drive with usb connection, but it wants the hd.  If it was a livecd at least I would

have a internet connection and tools within 5 minutes of booting then install it where I want it

using all GUI.  I ll cold swap the drive and do the install, but I am short of that size drive right now.  One thing I like about using laptops as moble desktops is the drive is as easy to change as the battery, pops right out the front.  I will give them points for seeing the usb to ps/2 mouse and keyboard combo right away some distros don't work until later in the process, but thats about all I got to see.

OK I got to run the Kubuntu 7.10.  It came up working completely without any problem. Found all hardware and everything worked.  Its a KDE desktop would only require an hour or so and I would have the same look and feel of the distro I normlly use.  Its easy to set up and I think any user could get it up and running with min. problems.  I only had concern about the choice of adept manager over synpactic, adept looks more refined in operation, but I don't see the point in all the icons just to do the same job, and they both work well.  adept can be changed to ones chioce.  I joined and have spent time in the Ubuntu forum,  the issues there are all the same as with any other distro,  If your hardware is not matching up ya have to work it out.  I had mult problems downloading the iso from Thai mirror, but the other sites worked fine.  burned it in K3d default no problem.  I ll stay with PClinuxOS because I am there, but there is not a real difference between the two, but the PClinuxOS livecd does have the install GUI on the desktop anytime you wish to go ahead and install it, it works pretty sweet, I did my first install of PClinuxOS to a USB drive with it problem free, not overly necessary just handy. It was a fun little trip down ubuntu lane, good distro, recommend anyone use it.
