November 29, 200718 yr Hi, The last time I went to Ko Racha was in 1999 so I imagine much has changed since. Could anyone tell me what it's like there now? I'm looking for a very low-keyed 1-2 nites stay in a bungalow (doesn't have to be on the beach). Any recommendations, contacts, price info would be greatly appreciated. Also is it safe to park motorbike/car at the Chalong pier overnight? Thanks for your replies! Cheers
December 1, 200718 yr I stayed there a few months ago and I doubt that it has changed much since you were last there. As far as I could make out there are only two hotels. http://www.asiarooms.com/thailand/phuket/r...sland-area.html We stayed in the the cheaper one, Ban Raya Resort which does consist of little bungalows scattered around the grounds and near to the beach. http://www.banraya.com/index.html Its pretty basic but perfectly ok. They can arrange to pick up guests at Chalong Pier. I was advised not to leave my scooter at Chalong Pier overnight, but only have anecdotal evidence that it is not wise.
December 1, 200718 yr Put your bike in the restaurant car park at Chalong pier and ask someone to look after it for 100 baht, or along ar Sunnee's Sauna on the road in. Raya/Racha has several guest houses, the cheaper ones are off the beach at the 'back' so when you arrive in the beautiful bay, walk through the big Racha resort (expensive) and follow the path to Ao Siam and then turn left, walking along the beach until you can go no further and you'll find a resort right in the corner - about 600 baht a night I seem to remember. If you want more detail just ask. Or there is father Bunglaows which is popular and more to the east of the island
December 1, 200718 yr Author Thanks ade100 & seonai! Much appreciated! I remember snorkeling at the back side of the island was pretty fantastic. We saw some very, very large fish that, well, were pretty scary to us non-divers. The current was very strong too. But it was one of the best times ever. It's not fully high season yet so I'm hoping we'll just show up and get lucky with finding a place. Thanks all. Cheers
December 1, 200718 yr Glad to be of help. As I am sure you aware, the just showing up plan could work out but carries certain risks. They might be full, the best deals are normally best booked in advance, the boat person might act like a taxi driver and start ushering you somewhere where he can get commission. But I am sure you know all about that.
December 1, 200718 yr Jungle View - 081 396 0887 and Raya Seaview Bungalows - 081 3975141 (both on the hill at the end of the back beach and about 700 baht). The Racha - 076 355 455 ($200 a night) Thanks for the feedback Mac
December 24, 200817 yr Hi, Do you know if it's possible to bring a motorcyvle to Ko Racha ? Or is it really ok to let it at Chalong ? Thanks.
December 24, 200817 yr You don't need a motorbike on Koh Racha as it's very small. Unless you have problems walking I would leave the bike at Chalong
