Well , I have been in Thailand three years this new year and still haven't got to Chang Mai Yet ( Amongst other places ).

So I plan on doing it straight after New Year .

The plan is to leave Pattaya around the 19th or 20 Dec. and head up to the wifes village in Roi Et province . I have done this run a couple of times alone now , and is pretty much a piece of cake .

Then on the 2nd of Jan leave the village , head to Khon Kaen , then across to Chang Mai . Will overnight somewhere , hence the post .

Where would be a fairly good halfway stop between Khon Kaen and Chang Mai ? ( I don't have a map on me right now , but Pitsanulock or Utradit spring to mind .

Does anyone have contact details for hotels in this halfway village and Chang Mai ?

Will probably stay a couple of nights in Changmai , before coming down to Bangkok then Pattaya . May have a friend doing a run up from Bangkok and meeting us up there .

Arrive back in Pattaya on the 7th .

Any sights to see not far off the beaten track ?

All info would be appreciated , anyone who cares to tag along some sections are welcome ( PM me if interested )

Cheers ,

Jim .

One quick suggestion: it sounds as if you arrive in Chiang Mai around the 3rd or 4th, and are back in Pattaya by the 7th. If you're going to come this far, I'd suggest you stay longer. Maybe even do the loop to and from Mae Hong Son, or see Chiang Mai for several days. It gets down to 12 degrees at night up here, esp. in the mountains.

Cheers PB , I have a couple of committments that interfere with my wishes , one being blessing the house for the 3rd and final year on new years day , and the other being work on the 9th Jan . Plus I have to wait for this other guy to get back to Thai .

Hey if I like it , I can always do it again . :o

Depending on which road you are taking there are lots of places to stop along the way. Lampang will put you about two hours out of Cahing Mai. To bad you don't have more time you will miss the real beauty of riding there. The area bewtween Cahing Mai and Chaing Ria is really spectacular. I plan on spending ten days riding in the Chaing Rai area in February and something tells me I will be just scratching the surface. Anyway have fun.

Also thinking about a ride from Pattaya to Hua Hin , Then on down to Phuket for a few days , Then down to Malaysia go to work , and ride back the following month . Around May sometime . Hopefully I'll catch up with you guys in a couple of weeks .
