oh yeah pls. use them bus/bts/mrt. Faster, safer,

Buses safer and faster than taxis?! Yeah, right! Buses are the most uncomfortable, unsafe, slowest way of getting round this city. Plus they are probably the biggest contributors to the terrible Bangkok traffic, and certainly the biggest contributors to traffic noise and pollution.

Admittedly, there's not a lot they can do about their speed as they're at the mercy of the huge volumes of other traffic on the road. And I guess they can't afford to clean them up or make them more comfortable as they have to keep their fares so ridiculously low so as to make them a viable option - it's only because they are so dirt cheap that anyone uses them I think. But they could make their drivers drive more responsibly and I'm sure they could tune up the engines on some of the worst vehicles - some of the thick black clouds I see coming out of some buses really are hideous.

Edited: Safer -> Save (My bad :o )

DP25: I only agree with you 'don't drink and drive' but the rest, no point of discussion.

To be honest, apart from the condition of some of the older busses, the bus system is pretty good in Bangkok. Especially when you consider the price, vast number of routes and the frequency of the busses. I would also say it’s safer to get a bus rather than a taxi. However, I still drive because I like the comfort and freedom of my own car.

I like the fact there are thousands of taxi's roaming the streets.

You might ask yourself, is it any worse than all the private cars I see on the streets with only a driver.

These comments from a person who owns a car in Bangkok but rather use public transport except on rare occasions.

I like having that many taxis available. Just a shame that tuk-tuks are just for scamming tourists and don't provide a decent public service or I would use them a lot.

Hi all,

I just read that in USA / Canada many taxis are replaced with hybrid technology taxis.

I think this can a start for all.

But i still thinking in general are to many cars in Bangkok are on the road but the public transportation has exactly the problem that other once above already written.

Really? The taxis are the cause of traffic problems? It isn't, oh I don't know, the police officers who control the traffic lights manually at ridiculously lopsided intervals instead of just letting them do their job? LoL I think there are bigger issues in BKK than the taxis... they are driving like they need to drive, and just like everyone else in this city ACTS whether it's on the sidewalk or wherever else... :o

it is unbelievable the response i have to think that all the people who think that there is a need to have two lanes including the bus stop blocked by taxis are not thinking about the road safety, the waste of fuel from them and the waste of fuel of the private citizen trying to drive from point to point. Clearly 50% of taxi drivers have no clear idea what a traffic law is or concern about the safety of anyone including their passengers. I challenge anyone to try to drive the fortune area, pratunam, silom at anytime ..........in either direction and not feel that there should be a reduction..... i want the guy who thinks that it is easy to avoid an area that they might live in to tell me exactly how? i read these posts and dumbfounded by the selfishness of the posters!
