Gps Experiences In Thailand--esp. Bangkok

Featured Replies

Anyone able to share some experiences using a GPS system in Thailand, especially in Bangkok.

Recommendations of models/brands as well as places to buy one in Bangkok would be great.

It seems to me that using the full benefits of of a gps in Bangkok would almost seem impossible considering how the roads are, but they sell them, and so I was curious about hearing from first hand experiences.

Thanks.

Suggest you search the motor forum. Lots of Bangkok information. I don't know about any of the others but I have a Garmin with ESRI mapping and I am quite impressed with it.

I got a Nokia Navigator a few months ago. It comes pre loaded with some good mapping software for Bangkok and it does voice guided navigation etc.

I also downloaded Nokia Maps and if you have the Internet Package for your phone, it also works very well. You can upgrade to Voice Guided Navigation for about $100- USD.

Sure its not as good as the large units because of the screen size, however, it suits my purpose of getting me around Bangkok

My Garmin 2610 Street Pilot has voice aided navigation. At first I thought it was really great but after a while it became irritating. I now keep it turned off. The unit tells you how far to the next turn and when you are close a big arrow pops up. It's difficult NOT to see it.
