Cannot make rhyme or reason to it, I am connected with 1Mbps....torrent downloading at some 3,000 (!) kBps...

Fact is, the torrent in question came flying in within minutes and came to a grinding halt at some 87% ....now it's zero speed... :o

Does anyone have a physical explanation to this phenomenon?

I had some of this before and found out that the torrent file was damaged. I was getting above 8,000 kByte/s which is in thailand impossible as well as in the most other staates around the world, because that suggest that your connection speed should be at least 64 Mbps (in my case) or 24 Mbps in your case. ADSL 2+ is max 25 Mbps and not exist in Thailand!

Try to download a huge file, like SP3 (XP) or SP1 (Vista) from Microsoft! I get an download from 260 - 300 kByte/s from MS and that's within the limit of my connection!

...interesting! Let's see how the file looks like when it is finally completed....

The SP3 download was indeed pretty fast...btw...I cannot see any before/after effect to this one! Will post that again in the appropriate thread...

If you use uTorrent you can see the stage of downloaded data under Files. In my case it was 1 file only, size 3,7 GB and the final download to finish (from 97-100%) was within 3 weeks(!) because the first 96% was multiple downloaded again and again! But that bwas to see with an Packet Sniffer only (comparing the logfile for similarities)!

The download Server from MS is very fast and depend on your Internet account you can get the full available speed!

Not yet 24 mbps :o , but definitely ADSL 2+

If I use the same router on my TT&T adsl line, the modulation changes over to just ADSL...

I wouldn't be so sure that that's ADSL-2plus because ADSL is up to 8 Mbps and ADSL-2+ ranged from 8 to 25 Mbps.

I have an ADSL 2+ Modem from TPLINK, Billion and DLINK and only DLINK shows the connection (2,560 Mbps/512 kbps) as Modulation ADSL_2plus but the Billion and the TPLINK didn't!

I'm pretty sure, when the CAT guys were in installing the line, as a test they called their exchange and set the dslam to allow the router to connect at max possible speed. It came out at 18 mbps down and 2.3mbps up!

Actual international speed came in at 14 something Mbps!!! Unfortunately they wouldn't keep the settings like that :o
