Hello,

Just tried loading a mini 8cm DVD+RW disc with some video from my camcorder into my MacBook. The drive did not take-in the disc as it usually does with regular size CD's. I was able to extract the disc by grabbing the small edge of the disc that was sticking out of the slot. The system profiler on my MacBook says:

Reads DVD: Yes

CD-Write: -R, -RW

DVD-Write: -R, -R DL, -RW, +R, +RW, +R DL

Burn Underrun Protection CD: Yes

Burn Underrun Protection DVD: Yes

Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, DVD-DAO

Media: No

Whats the deal will it accept these small discs or what?

Thanks,

-O

Unless i am missing the point you are asking if you can use a DVD+RW in a Mac with a superdrive. If so, your answer is in the question.

Re read your post. Mini 8cm disks? That's not mini, that's standard.

That's what I thought nidge but my slot drive did not grab the DVD so I did not push it in all the way. I left just a slight edge showing, then chickened out for fear of it getting stuck inside. Upon inserting the DVD disc it felt like I had to throw it in to see if it works, it didn't grab and take it.

I just checked mine, repeatedly putting a disc in the slot. One time it did not go all the way in and stopped with about 2mm remaining. So i pushed again. In it went with no problems.

If it doesn't work on your macbook, my name's not Nidge and i've never heard of you :o

8cm is the small versions and most drives have a recess in them to except them. Check to make sure your drive does have this.

Sorry peoples, i just finished a 12 hour shift and buggered my calculations.

Measured my dvd slot in decimal feet and converted as imperial feet to cm.

I am now humbly grovelling for forgiveness. :o

Orangutan, i don't know but i'm pretty sure a smaller disk will never be seen again. I certainly won't be trying it!

Can't look inside a slot loaded drive to see if it's grooved.

Nidge you're forgiven... :o
