Cat Cdma Pre-paid Sim Cards Available, Chiang Mai?

Featured Replies

Hello :o

Tomorrow i'm off to Chiang Mai for a couple of weeks, and i thought to bring one of my spare phones with me and give CAT CDMA a test drive. What i want is the data connection - i have the data cable for that phone and there's a computer where i will stay (way out of the city on a farm), but neither phone line nor internet. Last time i have been using various GSM options which all were horribly slow, and CAT even with 1x could get me a somewhat decent speed at least.

Now i figured out that there's a CAT CDMA shop on Super Highway which i can find. My question is - do they sell pre-paid SIM cards with data enabled? SIM only, without phone! As i have the phone already. As of yet i have used CAT CDMA only when roaming on it (i'm a Hutch user).

If such SIM's are available, are there alternative ways to get one (i.e. shopping mall, 7-Eleven) in Chiang Mai? Here in Bangkok you get pre-paid Hutch on every street corner, but no CAT at all.

Thanks in advance for any reply :D

They might sell you a SIM card - if technically possible, I can't see why not. Unlimited data plan - which the CAT guy told me was actually the only reasonable deal they offer - costs 790 BHT / month.

You will have to go to the CAT head office on the super highway, there are no CAT shops. In my understanding they are still in the testing phase and quite happy to not have too many customers.

Thanks for replying :o

Well "unlimited data plan" at 790 Baht/month sounds like post-paid - which makes no sense as i will be in "CAT area" only for two weeks. In Bangkok i have Hutch (post-paid too) but without data plan, as i of course have ADSL here. I can surf WAP on the phone on Hutch but not on a computer hooked up to the phone.

As i have several Hutch phones (you get a free or much cheaper one every year if you renew the contract) it would be ideal to get a CAT SIM card so i can use that for internet purposes while up country. I guess i'll have to find out when i'm there :D

Best regards.....

Thanh
