Hi All

I use the Avira Free Edition. If I right click on a program or folder there is an option to “Scan selected files with Avira”.

I have got into the habit of scanning every new download with this option and if the download is a Zip file I re-scan the un-Zipped files yet again.

I thought this was a pretty good safeguard against opening any nasty downloads.

Recently I have noticed that some downloads that have passed the original scan test show up as a threat during a regular system scan. :D

I usually put new downloads on the Desktop so I know where they are till deciding what to do with them. So I know for sure that the files that passed the original scan are the same that highlight as a threat during a normal system scan.

Anyone have any thoughts or better still a solution that will make the “Scan selected files with Avira” work. :o

Maybe the threat has been added (ie you updated Avira) between the on demand scan and the system scan.

That is a possibility I had not thought of, though my automatic updates happen fairly soon after start-up so anything I download later in the day would not have slipped through. But will keep an eye on that.

Have been slogging my way through the AVIRA support and FAQ pages, what a lot of stuff to go through, anyway there were a couple of references to scanning files but no answers that I could figure out – maybe it’s just me!

Here!

And Here!

While on the subject anyone know how to set Free Download Manager to perform a virus check? When I select Avira I get the message “Unable to find the executable files of the antivirus program you’ve chosen. Please specify yourself” I tried the obvious file from the Avira folder “avscan” but that didn’t work.

Happy New Year
