radiobutt Posted January 1, 2008 Posted January 1, 2008 I've been studying here for 5 years already. I am going back to China soon. I have some books and CDs want to ship back to China by waterway. Does anyone knows any good shipping company and how much it would cost? (about 40kg)

I have some books and CDs want to ship back to China by waterway. Does anyone knows any good shipping company and how much it would cost? (about 40kg) I had some household effects (2,000 kilos) shipped in this summer by a 20' container. We used Agility shipping (near Rama III, central plaza area). [email protected] was our agent. We had some problem with customs coming in, but they kept the customs fees down to less than 2,000 baht (main shipping fee was paid in the US. I would imagine they could do the same for a smaller shipment and give decent service. Their contact data follows. many shipping experiences are subjective, but given the opportunity I would use them again. Just make sure you stay in frequent contact with them once things are shipped and have estimates in writing. JOY BELLE R. redwooddrive Posted January 3, 2008 Posted January 3, 2008 One additional note. DO NOT ship anything (in or out) that has any appearance of being a computer. I guarantee you, it will get flagged for special attention/inspection. The same goes for alcoholic products. I have had three different shippers I have used in the last five years warn me that customs fees for those items are outrageous. You would think they could care less about things leaving but I hear otherwise. Good luck in China.

raro Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 that is me, raro! If it is 40 kg, I reckon that a parcel service might be the cheapest alternative. The costs of getting the cargo on board of a ship will most likely exceed the costs for the parcel service. The minimum for seafreight is at least 1 cubic meter, for some destinations even two! As a result, up to 40 to 50 kg, parcel services are the cheapest alternative, up to 100 kg airfreight and then seafreight. NB: Those are rough ballpark figures, theis depends on the destination!
