Download Manager Integration Problem With Ie6

Featured Replies

I've been using FreshDownload (FD) manager for a couple of years now, integrated with IE6 (in the past IE5) and never had any issues. (OS: WinXP SP2 and one WinXP SP3)

Most times when I clicked on a download button it went straight to the FD manager. For the past few months in most cases I end up at the Windows download alert (Run/Save/Cancel) which of course does not allow any 'resume' if link is cut.

Most web sites no longer provide the File download URL (only a download button) so I can not copy/paste it into FD.

One example: today I downloaded the Ultimate Boot CD (UBCD4WinV310.exe), many links available but only one activated FD all others only the Win download screen.

Any suggestions?

Use FreeDownloadManager! It's free and works very well. I use it instead of IDA (Payware) because it's better, faster and have more features. Even can use as Bittorrent Client!

Hi Reimar,

I just downloaded the Free Download manager from here

but when installing, all I get is a very brief blank (1-2sec) dos screen then nothing....any idea what this means (WinXP SP2).

NB: downloaded from two different locations as well but with same result.

Sorry for to answer late but I'm quite busy at the moment.

You need to install as administrator! Otherwise not any specials! Seems to be a problem with your windows installation. That's maybe the point why the old downloadmanger was stop working?!

I use the FDM on XP, Vista, Server 2003 and Server 2008 without any problems!

Reimar,

All our PCs run as administrator.

Got the installation done now but have not yet tested the program.

Apparently my problem was that I tried to install over the LAN (downloaded on one PC but tried to install on a different one over the LAN). After moving the file to the installation PC all is OK.

Thanks for your input.

IE6?

You should really really upgrade to IE7, I believe even Panthip Windows is eligible nowadays.

Opera had "Resume download" feature for ages, no need for Download Managers for regular users.

My vote goes for Free Download Manager works great and will pick up an uncompleted download even after the computer has been switched off overnight.

Sometimes the Windows download window will come up first but you just cancel that and FDM will take over. Also some sites lead off somewhere else and you sometimes only get a link and not the actual download, this can be got round but I forget how now. :o

Another thing to keep eye on is to “click here if download does not start” this will bring on the FDM.

I have a “Downloads” folder on the desktop and send all downloads there so I know where they are, best to set this up before starting any downloading.

Dafffy.

:D
