Last night, at four a.m. my phone bleeped to indicate a text message had been received. I checked and found that although someone had sent an sms to my number, there was no message displayed – just a number. Presumably someone had dialled my number by mistake. However, when I checked the “message details” on the phone, I found the message had been received at 13.47 that day. The time on my phone was correct, so why did it come through at 4 am when it was sent at 13.47?

The number turns out to be a friend of my wife (who has my number), but she has denied sending the message. (I doubt she did it deliberately, as she lives in BKK and she is a very old friend of my wife, and not close to me.)

This incident has caused me some problems as my wife does not believe the message was sent at 13.47, and she thinks that I deleted the one that came through at 4.am. before showing her my phone.

I can’t say I blame her, as if the situation was reversed I would also be sceptical.

Is there a technical explanation for what occurred? Anyone?
