Refill For A U.s. Perscription

Featured Replies

I am currently living in Surin with my Thai wife and my U.S. written perscription for Ambien CR is about to run out. Since I am not returning to the U.S. for another four months I was wondering if a Doctor at Bumrungrad Hospital in Bangkok will write me a new one if I bring him the empty bottle? I have used this Hospital before and am in their records. I don't want to make a special trip to Bangkok and find out that I have wasted my time. Has any member had a situation like this and gotten it taken care of in Bangkok?

From a Google search I see that Ambien CR has zolpidem tartrate as its active ingredient. It appears that at present there is no product with this ingredient available in Thailand but check at a local pharmacy to make sure. The pharmacy has a reference book called TIMS to check it.

One way or another, I believe that you would need a prescription of a doctor in Thailand for the purchase of a sleeping pill. Perhaps you could call your US doctor to ask what alternative he recommends (ask for the generic name of the active ingredient), then ask a local pharmacy if this is available in Thailand and if it is, get a prescription from a local doctor in Surin. No need to travel all the way to Bangkok if you don’t want to.

As Mestro says, anything of similiar action to Ambien will need to com e from a doctor or hospital.

Over the counter, you c an get Atarax 25mg which works well for many people, 1-2 tablets (25 - 50 mg).

Bamrungrad, based on a doctor's prescription, will provide up to 15 tablets of Ambien in any one day (this is hospital policy and cannot be altered by a doctor). If you need more, you need to go back and back to Bamrungrad to get your entire prescription filled. I do not know about Ambien CR (extended release).
