Pattaya Mail Article

Where are they.

Heard about them for years, but never sure which they are.

"The intended project, which will reclaim land in South Pattaya where the infamous 101 businesses lay, is now in it early stages but initial studies as to the long-term environmental effects are inconclusive and require further research, in accordance with 1992 government legislation. Other factors include contract tenders and overall pricing structures."

It's all the shops on the seaside of walking street. Supposedly they are all built without permissions and were due to be demolished "imminently" a couple of times over the last 10 years :o

It's not All of them - some have legitimate permission for their buildings, soe have ditto, but have extended their stuctures over the 'beach', some have no permission at all.

But even if all were demolished, after the court cases, compensation, demolition and so on, what will take their place?

The artist's rendering in the Pattaya Mail shows some sort of idealised beach scene, but I doubt that that area of sea-front will ever be a good beach. The headland to the South prevents all the pollution being carried away (look at the area at Bali Hai pier - the 'beach' is filthy.

After a few years the area will return to current use - restaurants, bars, go-go's and a few tailors. Plus the hotels at the southern end.

It's a lot of fuss by a new administration to show that they have taken over. (It's all in the Shinawatra Handbook for Aspiring Politicians Without Any New Ideas - SHIPWANI)
