I myself been in Thailand for almost a decade , and had alway have the greatest of time here and with the warm of the people .

i just love Thailand .

But i can't help to make Notice that there is really a Huge Gap between Westalogy and Eastalogy -- at least that what i call it .

To bring this to Pal i would have to recap event that i come acorss.

Feb 27th - i got kinda playful and just Jump onto a Bus to go travelling around bangkok .

i really forget what Bus i took . but it passes MBK and sukumvit area .

some this PERSON A - boarded the Bus . and seem to be looking and seeking for direction .

being able to speak english i more or less try to help him ..

.

So there i am sitting next to him .. and see him using his Poor Thai asking for direction .. and then Turning to me telling me how STUPID thai is . for not knowing the direction of the building he want to go .

so i was pondering to myself . reflecting my life if at moment i do behave badly . in thailand due to not being a thai .

..Trying to Ignore his comment about thai . i focus on trying to Help him find the building .

Then he go about how . Silly and amazing that Thai Buses Collect Ticket one by one .

Again i was amaze that for someone who boarded the Peo0ple transport . and then point out that how silly it is to collect ticket one by one ..strange how people think in diffenence

Trying my Best to ignore his topic .

So more Thai Boarded the Bus .. and some school girl ..

and this PERSON A here , started his speech again .. Saying wow look at this B*tch .

if i quoted him correctly he said " i used to ride B*tch like this like a Surfboard "

Is it common to disrespect Others so you look Good ?

i can't help to . Notice that some Farang who come to Thailand As a Guest feel that Their BETTER or More human Then others .

just cos There assume their richer ? or by some special reason There a greater being .

Here is a sorry reminder for Those who Think so .

.

Please be reminded that Being respectful to people around you is the key to gaining respect from others .

My best wishes to all staying in Thailand and Hope you have a great time here .

This guy is the type of person that gives all farang's a bad name. His comments about Thai women unacceptable. He's lucky he wasn't in the US or another Western country where he could be understood, he would have gotten a swift kick in the nuts. For some reason people forget that they are guests in LOS or they just think they are the dog's <deleted> because they more money than the locals.

I try to treat LOS like when I visit someone's home. I'm not going to insult the cook about the food, or put down the person's house. Some perople lack common human courtesy. Karma is a MFer you get back what you put out.

If you behave badly anywhere people will let you know, even if they are employed to make you happy, but on a bus? I am with you, if they haven't understood no problem, but if they have, then you have to explain that he is making them, and you uncomfortable. He's probably alright, just ignorant. English people like to talk about the weather, that would be something positive.

Tough for me to understand too. Had a friend sit down at breafast a week or so ago, and to a new Thai lady waitstaff began to rant about how Thais are all liars, can't trust them, blah, blah, blah....

I was so embarassed. The waitstaff lady was glancing at me as though I believed this B.S. too.....

What is it about Expats here and wanking? O.K. the occasional frustration over drivers, o.k., understood, but a constant stream of complaining has me exiting the scenario.

"Put up or shut up" is what my Dad always used to say.

well, i noticed one of my colleagues being an absolute wank the other night, don't have much time for him, he's a mexican so lets say farang, was calling his thai gf every other name etc.... i was outside watching inside and saw him push her, then throw something.

2 mates had a "chat" to him, but it wasn't enough for me, needless to say, he won't be doing any of that anymore.

if you see something not kosher, put people in line... half the time they just think it's funny, albeit far from true.

The stories are all sad but entirely believable - I say, redirect those that need redirecting but be prepared for it to backfire because the attitude of Thai's towards the stupidity of farangs is nothing like the attitude of foreigners visiting other countries.

Just few week ago , i was at one of the local dress shop to pick up some stuff my wife send to repair , usual CHnage of zip on her dress and also some patching work .

so one farang lady .. was like red faces and really angry .

cos the Thai cannot under her .

so strange enough i was there at the moment ,

so i help her to translate ..

she said .

The dress maker damage her Dress and she paid .$90 usd for the dress.. and demand the dress maker to pay her some kinda $$$$$

as i explain ...

like what i usually like to do is listen to both side of story .

i ask the thai dress maker lady . what happen .

she say farang came to ask for Dress be repair .

she say .. 80b and farang say too expensive .. and say 30b ..

so she say ok and found the cheapest Zip and sew it on for her ..

and cos the farang have big hand .. when she Unzip the dress her pull it too hard and rip the whole side apart ..

and now she blame her for doing a bad job on the dress and giving her BAD zip ..

........................

i kinda don't know who to side ..

but to ask someone pay you $90 or even hald of $90 for 30b service you paying ?

is it fair ?

strange enough ..westalogy and eastalogy . alway show itself infront of me :o

.....................

i just love looking at others cos everyone else is really a mirror of what i can be ..

:D

i love thailand

If I saw a Thai person acting badly and started a thread like this one I would probably be sorely rebuked and for good reason. I'm wondering if a thread which depicts a foreigner acting badly should be similarly rebuked....or not.

Did these 'farangs' have signs around their necks stating "Representative of the white race"?

I suspect coming from a culture in which nationalism and conformity are drummed into you at school, you have not yet developed the ability to separate ethnicity and individuality.

You may indeed have a tendency to try to actively seek out behaviour that confirms your prejudices.

ทำไมฝรั่ง.......?

Are these the opening words of many of your questions?

Sorry i do not read thai , but i will check with my Wife what you wrote .

i don't really want to change anyone . just reflecting my view and also .. at the same time . if i can i try to help out . anyone who need my help , i do speak thai but can't read it yet .

Anyway .

The the ending part of the dress maker is such that .

i direct that Farang to some place where she can get some nice dress for about 300-500b .

cos when i look at the dress i find it commonly sold in thailand .

the dress maker . say thanks you to me and the farang say thank you to me .

while East and west don't blend together , we are really very much the same .

as much as we are difference we are really the same

as hard as we try to be difference all our shit smell

as easy as looking into your heart

we are after all sharing a common ground

Earth is my home ,sky is my blanket

i thought the op said he had been in thailand for almost a decade, and now he says he cant read thai and will have to ask his wife.

sorry but that tells me all i need to know, i could tell you what this says, but wont, maybe ask yourself why you cant read this, and what have you been doing for almost a decade, propping up a bar?

Dear rgs2001uk

Do i need to read Thai . if i am here a decade ? is my choice to choose what i feel what i needs. and my choice is such that knowing how to speak is enough ,

i am asking my wife cos i just got a married recently .

well you seem to be assuming alot .

what is it about " what have you been doing for almost a decade, propping up a bar? "

I been travelling around asia , doing my bussiness and i happen to speak . English , chinese , thai . a little japanese , hokkien , teochew , cantonese , learning how to speak some burmese , and a little malay ,

so do i need to write all those too ?

Dear sir . The world is stranger then you think .

Anyway i ask my wife about what you wrote

" ทำไม ฝรั่ง " = Tam mai farang ? - she also ponder a little .

do you want to say " WHY farang " or do you want to say . What are you doing farang ?

no idea wher eyou got that line form ?

or are you trying to say Tam arai farang ?

anyway is least importance :o

i really enough mor eof my time with my wife or watching a movie . sometime i go photography .

or plan some of my bussiness and visit factory . or surf the net for info on how to produce something .

i seldom or hardly go to any bar in the last 6 years . or so .

i do enjoy going for nice food at the japanese resturant or some time at the wine bar of hotel that play nice jazz music or bassa nova .

well sad to say .. lots of farang on the street is only seem in Bars

that is cos the better one sleep early and stay home with their GF and wife .

anyway if you want to know more about me .. don't GUESS or assume just ask i would be happy to answer :D

dear ta22

i will tackle your points in order

do you need to read thai, no, however you like me have chosen to live here, if you choose not to learn how to read and write the language of the country you have chosen to live in, then as they say here, up to you.

congratulations on your recent marriage.

i am not assuming anything.

what have you been doing etc etc etc was a question, thats why there was a question mark (?) at the end of it.

i take my hat off to you for taking the time to learn other languages, i know its not easy, i dont feel the need to talk about the other languages i speak, they are irrelevant.

do you need to learn how to write in those other languages, up to you, as only you will know.

as for the world being stranger than i think, well thats a matter of opinion, and i dont have the time for a philosphical discussion.

you said you asked your wife about what i wrote, please tell me what i wrote.

maybe you are under the mistaken impression i wrote, tam mai farang, please re read the posts in order, you will see i was quoting from someone elses post. if you have any questions, i suggest you raise them with the person who posted.

you say you already speak thai, so i fail to understand the confusion, maybe your wife missread the thai fonts, sorry i cant answer, only your wife can explain.

no i wasnt trying to say tam arai farang, as i said before i didnt write this, but i know it doesnt say tam arai farang, again maybe you wife missread, or maybe she failed to explain it to you , or maybe she explained it correctly and you didnt understand, i dont know the answer, but its of little concern to me.

anyway you seem to be a decent enough guy, its a pity thailand seems to attract the wrong types, hopefully the baht exchange rate will force the type of farangs you referred to elsewhere.

anyway i wasnt guessing or assuming, as i said earlier, i was asking a question, which you have kindly answered, thank you.
