Requirements For Farang To Own Motorbike

Featured Replies

I understand a non-immigrant B visa (at very least) is required. I also have an international driving license. Is anything else required as the guy in the motorbike shop said I need something from the British Embassy?

Does anyone know what exactly I need. Also I'm assuming if I get it from the British Embassy it will be in English, which surely won't be any use to the thai authorities will it?

Thanks in anticipation

The guy at the bike shop would know best. Ask him, and write it down. But I know from the list you put out that you are missing something regarding your address in Thailand. You need SOMETHING indicating what your address is before they can sell you a bike. That *might* be what they were asking from the British embassy--something confirming your local address. But I have a Thai ID and passport and didn't have to go through all of that, so I don't know exactly what you need.

HI

First of all, small or big bike?

You dont need anything other than your Passport, sometimes they ask about address, get the paper from your landlord thats all, have done it many times now, the shop should do the paperwork, when i bought 1 of my small bikes Yamaha took care, only needed passport.

Technically..

Long stay visa (any non imm) is the rule.. But I have regged on 30 day exempt stamps even.

Passport with above and current chops and paper card inside.

Address proof.. Either WP, or Letter from immigration, or report from embassy.

Then of course signatures on tranfer docs (1 if he comes with your or two if he doesnt) and same from seller.. Thai ID card and tabien baan is the Thai version of Passport and address proof.

Dont think I was ever asked for license.. Think I could own a vehicle and not drive it ??
