The more that I see of Cole, the more I dislike him. For me he promotes everthing that is bad in football -cheating ,whinging, gamesmanship, disloyalty, greed and an isatiable desire to make headline news.

I'll admit that he's a good footballer, but he is a complete and utter kcirp who plays the game in the worst possible taste (Sorry Kenny Everet)

Why is it that he can't just get on with what he is good at doing, playing football? Rather than all the <deleted> that goes with him.

Any thoughts,or am I just being to hard on the poor lad? Any other suggestions about players n the game who are equally as bad?

PS, his wife is a bit of alright. :o

Cole apologises to Hutton & Riley

Chelsea defender Ashley Cole has apologised for his tackle on Tottenham defender Alan Hutton, and for his conduct towards referee Mike Riley.

Cole turned his back on Riley as he booked him for a late and high tackle on Hutton during Wednesday's 4-4 draw.

"I apologise to anyone I offended, and of course Alan who I tackled. It was not malicious," Cole told Chelsea TV.

"I did not mean to disrespect the referee. I recognise this is a part of my game I need to work on and control."

The 27-year-old England left-back, who watched a replay of the match on TV on Thursday morning, is adamant he did not intend to hurt Hutton, adding: "I did not mean to go in hard that way.

"It was high but I tried to read the ball and get the ball first but he was a little bit too quick for me.

"It was not malicious and I am a little disappointed with what people are saying, that I meant it.

"Of course it was a bad tackle at the time but in the heat of the moment you want to win the game and win every tackle. As I said, I am sorry for Alan but it was never meant."

Hutton himself has said that he holds no grudge towards Cole for the tackle.

"He went to win the ball and I've just got there quicker," said the Scot on Thursday.

"I wasn't thinking about whether he would be sent off, I knew the challenge was high but so was the ball.

"I am not blaming him for it, I've probably done a similar challenge in my career. He said he never meant it afterwards and that's fine with me."

Spurs boss Juande Ramos echoed the sentiments of Hutton.

He said: "We are just very happy that no player got injured.

"In general terms it was a clean game and there wasn't any violence."

Chelsea players surrounded Riley after the incident in first-half stoppage-time at White Hart Lane and Cole turned his back on Riley before he was eventually shown a yellow card.

Blues boss Avram Grant added: "I didn't see it but the referee was very close and I saw everybody jump on him, including the Tottenham bench.

"I know when we are doing this everybody says we are not behaving right. We have a lot of respect for referees."

Riley did not include the reaction of the Chelsea players, or that of Cole, in his match report so no further action will be taken on that matter by the Football Association.

The FA cannot take any further action over Cole's challenge on Hutton because the Chelsea star was booked for the tackle.

An FA spokesman told BBC Sport: "The referee saw the incident and dealt with it. We cannot re-referee matches.

"The player was shown a yellow card at the time and the decision is not then looked at retrospectively."

Under Fifa regulations, a decision taken by a referee can only be rectified by a disciplinary committee if the referee sends off the wrong player, or makes an obvious and serious error.

The FA has acted retrospectively to upgrade a booking before, when it suspended Ben Thatcher following his challenge on Pedro Mendes in a game between Manchester City and Portsmouth in August 2006.

But the FA spokesman added: "As we said at the time, that was an exceptional case.

"The reason why Ben Thatcher was charged in addition was because, even if he had been sent off by the referee Dermot Gallagher, we would still have charged him on top.

"That was the rationale we used to charge him with violent conduct."

Couldn't agree with you more. The tackle was a potential leg breaker and his petulance just a continuation of past behaviour. "Cashley" sees himself above the laws and respect that players should have for the great game. Chelsea supporters will of course rush to his defence saying he is misunderstood and I dont wear that in his apology he says he didnt mean to hurt Hutton he had intent written all over him. A lengthy suspension and dropping from the England squad may give him time to reflect but that won't happen and the next time Chelsea, or whatever team he is playing for, are in danger of losing his behaviour will surface again. As for his wife and his bed hopping activities just what does she see in him ?

It wasn't just the tackle (which I agree was bad) but also his utter disrespect of the ref, Mike Riley. Now I'm no fan od refs at the best of times due to poor standards we get now but, doing that was the actions of a little spoilt brat bent on trying to show everyone he's above the laws of the game & those on the pitch to uphold them.

Apart from that it was a good game :o

So he says sorry, and thats alright?

Lets be fair, Coles petulance and gamesmanship are well known amongst fans and people in the game. It's about time he was made an example of, regardless of his hollow apology.

It was a fantastic game to watch! I watched the re-run on True Sports last night.

Looking at the tackle, Cole was lucky not to get a straight red and his blatent disrespect towards the ref was sheer petulance.

I also noticed earlier in the game when Cole was defending, he intentionally blasted his clearance straight into the Spurs fans when there was no need to do so.

That was one of the best PL games this year without a doubt - great for fans who wanted to see lots of action.

Ashley Cole deserved a red for that terrible tackle. Malicious or not, it was clearly dangerous, and if that wasn't enough for a straight red, his attitude afterwards should've put him over.

Frankly, I think some of the others - including John Terry - should've seen yellow. But thankfully Hutton wasn't seriously hurt and the rest of the game was just superb.

I believe his Tackle is out of favour with Mrs Cole as well at the moment.

:o:D

Overpaid, uneducated, egotistical <deleted> that he is. He needs to be brought done to earth with a very hard thump.

Football is riddled with actors, cheats and liars.Ashley Cole's actions were inexcusable, but what he did was to put doubt into the mind of the referee.Mike Riley didn't have a good view of the tackle but when he saw Alan Huttons impression of a hedgehog rolling down a hill,he must have thought that he was trying to con him. Then Cole's fervant hard-done-by reaction convinced himself to give him a yellow card.Basically,Hutton and Cole acted out a scene by trying to cheat the referee and then Avram Grant lied by saying he didn't see the tackle. These are not the only perpetrators,of course.Every game we see the referee having to make decisions surrounded by players trying to intimidate him.The managers blatantly lie to protect their players but their eyesight dramatically returns when they race out of their dugout after seeing an opposing player committing an infringement.

Whilst I agee with what you are saying in prinicple, the real point is that Ashley Cole is a persistent offender. In respect of teams surrounding refs, it really is annoying and lots of teams do it, but there is one team who are particularly bad at it.

I totally agree on the point of managers being complicit in the "theatre" though.

'WHY ' just because we are telling the truth about one of your players ??

The antic's of some of your other players also leaves a lot to be desired re giving the referee's hassle and showing no respect ie JT... :D

A very fair point BT, but don't say too much as JT may be surrounding the mods. :D

When playing for England against Portugal in Euro 2004 he had as good a game a fullback could have against Ronaldo, the year after he was constantly injured, since then and leaving Arsenal he doesnt seem to be the player he was.

Got to be a pr7ck to cheat on that Cheryl, if i had a bird like that id never need to go to Thailand again!

This disrespect to referees seems to be a British thing to me.Ashley Cole has been put up as the resident bogey man already but others such as John Terry,Joe Cole,Rio Ferdinand,Robbie Keane and Robbie Savage eyeball referees on numerous occasions. However, the worst offender is Wayne Rooney. He seems to target the nerds on the line, snarling and spitting obscenities as soon as they're in earshot. He's not adverse to the lunging tackle either.I once heard our man Macca recently say of him"If he loses the ball to you,he'll come back and hit you where it hurts(chuckled knowingly). He's that sort of player. But I feel he's maturing into responsible human being.Yeah, very mature.

The problem with Cashley is more than just his behaviour on the pitch. He has managed to package himself as an arrogant, self interested, disloyal little <deleted> over the past 2 or 3 years. He has only got himself to blame for becoming the resident boogeyman with some of the stunts that he has pulled opn and off the pitch, and I'm not just talking about shagging around.

He's a good player no doubt, but he does need to learn to wind his neck in a fair bit. Whilst Rooney is no angel, I think he is not as bad as Cole and I do feel that he has matured more this season than in the past. Anyway opinions are like Assh)(es, everyone's got one, and thats what makes these forums interesting.

As for Savage he's another persistent offender who revels in it, is probably more upset that Cashley has stolen the limelight from him.
