Morning Glory

Morning Glory (Here's To The Morning Glory)

One for the Morning Glory, two for the early dew,

Three for the man who will stand his round,

And four for the love of you, me gal,

Four for the love of you!

At the end of the day, I like a little drink,

To raise up me voice and sing;

And an hour or two with a pint of brew,

And I'm ready for anything.

At the Crossley's Inn there were sisters four,

The landlord's daughters fair;

And every night when they put out the light,

I would tip-toe up the stairs, singing!!

One for the Morning Glory, two for the early dew,

Three for the man who will stand his round,

And four for the love of you, me gal,

Four for the love of you!

Well, I got the call from foreign shores,

To go and fight the foe;

And I thought no more of the sisters four,

But still I was sad to go.

So I sailed away on a ship,

The Morning Glory was her name;

And we'd all fall down when the rum went 'round,

Then get up and start again, singing!!

One for the Morning Glory, two for the early dew,

Three for the man who will stand his round,

And four for the love of you, me gal,

Four for the love of you!

Well, I bore once more for my native shore,

Farewell to the raging sea;

And the Crossley's Inn, it was beckoning,

and me heart was filled with glee.

Ah, but there on the shore were the sisters four,

With a bundle upon each knee;

There were three little girls and a bouncing boy,

And they all just looked like me, singing!!

One for the Morning Glory, two for the early dew,

Three for the man who will stand his round,

And four for the love of you, me gal,

Four for the love of you!

One for the Morning Glory, two for the early dew,

Three for the man who will stand his round,

And four for the love of you, me gal,

Four for the love of you!

Always brightens up the Morn after a Dull night!

cheers Tigs

Good Luck

I have been singing it all day. It was even going through my head when I was doing my Tai Chi! :D Now that's bizarre!

One for the Morning Glory...

I hear that over in jolly England and Ireland and such, in the pubs there used to be times when everybody would sing. I think that would be cool, it reminds me of when I was a kid in the US and at Christmas people would come over and sing Christmas carols. And other times we would sing.

But now everything is done for people instead of by them. It seems to be all amplified music for entertainment but not same feeling you get when singing with a group of people.

So tell me, do they still do that over there? Seems like I have heard they do, I would like to see it some time!

OK something else I have heard of, but I think it is no longer in existence. Are there still any "music halls" I believe they were called, little places where variety acts were put on. I don't know if people drank beer there too. That would have been cool to see.

Maybe it was like vaudeville in the US, that is long long gone, since the days of the movies started as I understand it.

I aqoke this mornign to a Cambridge covered in at least an inch of Snow.

T'is the first snow Cambridge has seen this year. Lovely.

When I was a young bloke (early 70s), there was a pub in Williamstown (suburb of Melbourne) called the Crown Hotel. On most nights at around 7 pm, almost the entire bar would erupt into song for half an hour or so and then most of them would wander off home. It's the only pub I've been in where this has happened. The hotel closed late in that same decade. Fond memories.

That sounds pretty nice. That's the type of thing I thought they might still do in Ireland and England.

They do still exist, or at least they did the last time I was there, however the numbers are dwindling.

Certainly in Ireland there were loads of pubs with no 'musak' in the background. People sang and musicians jammed. Them was good times them was!

You're never a young bloke when you're in your early 70's! I don't care what age you are now, early 70's is never young! :o

Brings back (good) memories of crunching through the frost on the Fen Causeway to go for a sneaky smoke on the way to Silver Street . . . . thanks Kayo.

Yes, time certainly does fly.

Time flies like an arrow, fruit flies like a banana.

...and then you find ten years have got behind you, no one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun..........

Funny how bluddy true to life some simple song lyrics can be.

I remember early morning cross country running at school. We used to start the run with a lap of the school grounds before venturing out around the local gravel pits. The bottom of the playing fields used to flood and one winters day there was a pond of water about 100 yards by 30 and about ankle deep. Overnight frost had left it with a skin of ice about 3/8" thick. The instruction from the sports master was to run through it leaving no piece of ice left bigger than his hand.

No bluddy morning glory that day I can tell you.

Did the sports master call everyone 'Laddie' by any chance Phil?

We either went to the same school or scarily similar ones....... mind you, back then, most of the teachers had been thrown out of the SS for unnecessary cruelty.

Have ye not experienced 'Christian Brothers'? Sadism taken to new heights. Still, didn't do me any harm! :o

Personally, no ... but a good friend of mine did, he doesn't talk about it that much.

Anyway, morning glory, check back with me in about six hours, still won't be able to do anything with it though :o
