For me, the ideal solution is to live in Thailand and vacation in Japan, preferably in the sakura or momiji season. It makes a nice break from the chaos of everyday life in the LOS.

That sounds like a good idea, I will certainly go back. One can get a good deal when going via the States.

At least, you will have opposite traffic.

IMO, the ideal solution would be earning JP money in Thai.
