libya 115
SOURCE: Pattaya Daily News: March 27th 2008 PATTAYA NEWCOMER FOILS RAPE ATTEMPT BY BOGUS MOTORCYCLE TAXI DRIVER On March 27, a 19-year- old female Pattaya newcomer was tricked by an enterprising motorcyclist, masquerading as motorbike taxi, into believing he was genuine. He subsequently led her on a wild goose chase, taking her on a circular tour of Pattaya, culminating in an attempted rape in a grove. She adroitly suggested they go to a hotel for sex and when they got there, snatched the culprit‘s ignition key and cried for help. Responding to an emergency call, at 4.20 am on Wednesday, Pattaya Pol.Sub.Lt. Wachara Kamsuk, arrived at a traffic police box on Sukhumvit Road, Central Pattaya, to find a group of vigilante motorbike taxis had detained the culprit, one Somnuk Jamnaijitr, (20), from Bangkok-noi , who had attempted to rape and rob the young woman. The victim was Miss "O" (alias), a 19- year-old, from Ubon-Rachathani province, currently employed as a singer at Bow Café, South Pattaya. There was a black and green Honda Night motorbike, nearby, which was used in the committal of the crime. Miss "O" told Pattaya police she had only been in Pattaya for two weeks and was consequently totally unfamiliar with the city and its environs. She said after finishing work, her boss had rung her to arrange a rendezvous at a restaurant in the Central Pattaya area. While she was waiting for a motorbike taxi, Jamnaijitr had ridden by wearing a motorbike taxi jacket with no number. Mistaking him for the genuine article, she had then waved him down. Rather than taking her to her appointment with her boss, however, Jamnaijitr rode around Pattaya in a circle, heading over to the railway tracks, claiming that it was a short cut. She was sufficiently naive to believe him, until the con-artist stopped in a grove and attempted to rape her and also stole her mobile phone. Miss "O" thought that she might be killed if she resisted, so pretended that she would have sex with Jamnaijitr if he took her to a hotel. Jamnaijitr was taken in and set off back into Pattaya. Later, she tricked Jamnaijitr into returning her mobile phone to her and called her boss. However, Jamnaijitr was alert and tried to attack her. Miss "O" resisted and snatched the motorbike's ignition key. At this point, Jamnaijitr thought it better to attempt to escape by catching another motorbike taxi. Miss "O" ran after him and screamed for help. Fortunately, other motorbike taxi came to her aid, affected a citizen's arrest and reported Jamnaijitr to Pattaya Police. When the police came, Jamnaijitr told them that he had been selling toys in front of McDonald's, near Old Fisherman's Bridge, Pattaya Beach Road. Having had a drink or three and feeling adventurous, he borrowed his friend's motorbike and jacket to prowl the sleepy Pattaya streets. He saw Miss "O", who he surmised looked somewhat naive, but very sexy and attractive, waiting for a taxi and so he pretended to be a real motorbike taxi. He correctly assumed Miss "O" was unfamiliar with Pattaya and decided on impulse to take her to a suitable grove in order to rape her. He wasn't astute enough to recognize Miss "O"'s counter-bluff, however, when she asked him to go to a hotel and was eventually arrested. Pattaya Police charged Jamnaijitr with attempted rape, assault and aggravated robbery.
