A wee cat became part of our family around Christmas time (from the soi) and at that time was very small, but without a mother and therefore weaned.

Now in April the stinky Toms have been, hung around and gone and I fear the worst.

Is it possible that she (it) could be pregnant at the tender age of 5 or 6 months?

Yes, I know a vet could tell me, but i am flat out at work and willl be for a while.

if she was already weened, she must have been at least two, rather three months old. Add another four months...yes. possible. Ours was about 10 months old when she got pregnant...

Hysterectomy and abortion? I don't think I have it in me. (no puns about her having it in her, please!)

Alas, it is possible. They are usually older (say 7-10 months) than 5 that at first heat, but it does sometimes come that early. Was she showing any signs of heat before the toms came by? (persistant high pitched crying?)

Pregnant or not, you will have to get her spayed which involves a hyseterctomy (and oopheraectomy). Wait a bit to see if she shows signs of pregnancy, if she does then wait for the birth and spay her as soon as the newbordn kittens are able to take solid food. If say 2 weeks pass and no sign of pregnancy, you're probably in the clear but should get her spayed fast to remain so.

For signs of pregnancy, look for changes in her nipples as well as belly bulge.

No signs of heat, but then I didn't see much change in my wife either!

She's getting a bit fat but her nipples eem normal. Maybe the neighbours are feeding her, too. Let's hope so.

I'll get her to a vet over the long weekend.
