Building Standards And Regulations

Featured Replies

Hi,

Can someone please advise me as to what the standards/regulations are in Thailand. I am an Architect in the UK and need to follow specific construction regulations when designing houses here. Is there a similar system in Thailand? If so, can somebody let me know where I can obtain copies of such material in English.

Failing this, can somebody please let me know some basic building techniques used in Thailand such as wall / floor construction, wall thicknesses and uses of insulation etc...

Many thanks

If you are already in Thailand you can personally inspect many different construction sites. This will give you first hand knowledge of construction methods, materials and safety procedures prevalent in Thailand.

You will then quickly be able to understand construction regulations that prevail here. :o

Or find out about the lack of regulations here! Best like Rimmer suggested to do your homework & INSPECT the different projects how they are done & be very thorough- If you are constructionally minded Check to see all phases meet your expectations. It will be next to impossible here to get a 100% passing grade compared to western standards' but if you look at different contractors & sites you are more apt to find the builders that take a little pride in their work & actually Know or really have licenses in their field. In the electrical dept-I have never seen a Thai use connectors & use a crimper instead of black electrical tape around the wires.

Good luck on your project!

Design to UK standards, but bear in mind that a rebar concrete frame is usual,

with breeze block fill.

Then supervise every stage of the construction.

No sleeping on the job as your name implies. :D
