Prediction Phuket Tourism Will Be A Thing Of The Past

Phuket has gone down hill post Tsunami. Rudeness, poor service, blatant rip-off's are an everyday common place on costa-del-phuket.

Obviously you weren't in Phuket before the Tsunami. :o

Sad but true. The Beach Road area is better and even Bangla Rd *gag*.

As far as Phuket goes, regardless of how long you have been here, the one thing that always remains the same is: We are ALL just guests here. Try going to your neighbours house and complaining about the hospitality, comfort zone or service. What would happen?

It is all too convenient to sit in your comfy chair and bang out insults about this place to other guests. Misery LOVES Company. Take your complaints to the people who can change things, or IMO, you are just p!ssing in the wind.

I (finally) agree with Sir Burr. This place is magical, and has a charm like no other. When I am forced to run the "gauntlet" of Touts, Massages, and Tailors, I just smile and say "No, Thank You". Sure they will pester you a bit, but would we ever buy anything if they didn't? (I find that a set of IPOD Earphones, and no eye contact to be very useful when in Pay-tong).

As far as the increases in tourism people speak of, like 100% growth of your product being sold to the major hotels. I (IMHO) would equate that directly to the increase of theft, and/or errors/spills. But not because more people are coming. Going from not selling the high dollar stuff to selling a boat load of the cheap stuff is not exponential growth. Of course you'd sell more. Just my opinion.

I live in the part of Phuket that has few tourists, because I choose not to live out the backdoor of a brothel. Noone can really say for sure, but Tourism as a whole will never suffer. It just trades places every once in a while. They will keep coming, and coming.

And Thailand will keep building and building. I am happy to see Phuket raising prices. I don't really care for the Guests on a low budget. This is not a low budget place, and keeping the prices where they are or higher is fine by me. I wish Thailand would make Phuket a SER. (Like Hong Kong)

There is potential here that most cannot see because they are set in their ways. Long Term Business Owners have let the market slide on them. Mis-Management, and sour attitudes towards staff. Read through this site and I am sure you will see that the Long Term Guests are the real issue. Expats are the problem. Sure, I am young and inexperienced, but you keep playing that card, and I'll blow past you in my new RRover Sport! (Gave up on the Fortuner. What a piece of crap)

Phuket will improve the more people come. If people stop coming, it will stay the same.

The Greatest thing about Phuket: You can always leave if you don't like it. We are not stuck here as are the Massage Girls, and the Touts on the beach.
