DaoDao
Hey everyone, I know there are severall posts about wich product to use/favourite lotions etc. But since I'm here, my face is becoming a minefield [ok ok bit over exaggerated, but still!] very oily and my pores seem to clog [if you know what I mean, hard time finding the right word/expression] maybe from the sunscreen and the sweating [allthough I dont use it a lot on my face-the sunscreen- ...]my normal daycream is not made for the weather here , its comes off the minute I put it on! Anyone knows a good product to prefent my pores from going nuts?? Thnx!
Boo
I dont' put sun cream on my face, I buy boots No 7 brand all day moisturising lotion as it sinks in really well & then I wear a foundation that has spf 15 in it. I find any kind of suncream is just too greasy for the face. Apart from that cleansing really well at the end of the day is essential but don't use too harsh an astringent, get one without alcohol as the alcohol will strip your skin of it's natural oils. If you dont' liek to wear make up then wet wipes are good, when you are out, clean your face & get all dirt/grime off then reapply the sunscreen. Goinghomesoon
Hubby has terrible blocked pore problems he is a fiend for trying new products. He swears the best reasonably priced one is Garnier Pure Self-Heating Sauna Mask. You only use it once a week for a few minutes. After he washes it off all the yukky pore blockages are softened and seem to come out really easily. It's about 70 baht for 2 single-application sachets at Tops. As a bonus it's a bright alien-green colour and causes great hilarity in the house whenever he uses it Edited April 26, 2008 by Goinghomesoon
RueFang
I'll never look at him the same way again GHS I have quite big pores and find that a herbal scrub (~20 baht from Tops) makes my skin really smooth and closes the pores...I do the scrub about twice a week and one packet lasts for ages. I also use Scacare Perfect Correcting Serum as my day moisturiser as it is so light, soaks in in seconds and best of all has SPF 30.
shikonjewel
I've never actually tried it but my bf always bring a product back from thailand with him called Babyface. He says it's his favorite so I thought I would try it. I always guessed it was prolly the thai equivalent to Clean and Clear products here in Canada. I use Garnier pure face gel and Nivea sensitive toner on my face and then apply St. Ives C. Elastin. That was suggested to me by a friend and the products work really well together but I never thought about how the heat may change my needs for products. Hmmm... In any case I was always told the best a person can do is wash, tone and lather on a lotion with spf. I can see how sunblock would block your pores though. kato
I too have a massive problem with my skin and the climate. The Thai's in my office all swear by 'Jabs' oil clear film. It is a little pack of blue bits of like plasticy paper, that are completely dry but you use in the same way as a face wipe to remove excess grease from your face, and aparently without interfering with your make up. They are a Japanese product but they say widely available here. The moisturiser I swear by is Garnier Pure A Daily Treatment Moisturiser. It moisturisers but also deals with open pores, spots and blemishes. I haven't looked for it here yet, but it is available in both the UK and India, so I'm guessing you'll get it here too, well, I hope so!!

samran
may sound silly, but I have really oily skin and this works for me. When I get break outs, washing my face in warm salt water on my face. This was based on the observation that any time I spent more than a couple of days at the beach, my skin would clear up and the pimples never returned until I got back home... raro
As you just mention salt water.... a couple of years back I had some ugly pimple-like whateveritwas on my nose. Didn't heal up. Saw 2 or 3 skin specialists, no idea. Ointments, creams, high-octane pills, no avail. ALL of them said that I should avoid swimming until it's healed up I go to Koh Samet with friends and said to myself.....f!@# it, I go swimming....within the next hour my nose healed up and the problem never occured again! Datsun240Z
Yep..salty seawater heals it up quicker, cause of the salt.
sutnyod
You could also try the indigenous cure: ground roots of turmeric http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turmeric Go to the market and ask for Khamin. However, you might want to apply it on a Friday (supposed you won't go out over the weekend), because it leaves yellow stains on your face that can stay for some days. MiG16
ok, from what Ive seen my friends with similar problems, a couple of things that might work: 1. as an astringent/cleaner - try tea tree oil (might be expensive in thailand though) its gentle on the skin (no alcohol) and works for a lot of people 2. instead of moisturiser cream, switch to moisturiser gel. the brand H20 has a couple of good products. one gel, and another a serum. did wonders for my young cousin good luck (is feeling good she can for once give advise in the ladies forum)
LaReina
A couple of people I know have sworn by Madame Heng herbal soap. Can find it in tescco.
DaoDao
Hey, The teatree oil is what a few people adviced me indeed...although I only found some creams with it, no cleaninglotion [do u know of any Mig?] I avoid products with alcohol in it.. I did found a very good sunblock without alcohol or perfume! Especially for your face I also use a day and night cream from Clarins [made for hotclimates!] its kind of a gel wich works for me! philliphn
I bought Tree Tea Oil at Big C Shopping Center in Pattaya. I got it in a speciality store. This product is made in Australia. A very small bottle was very expensive. I use it in the evening after washing my face with another product called Prem. I believe Prem has some Tree Tea Oil in it. I use the Tree Tea Oil on trouble spots. It does have some positve results. It seems to work as a kind of anitiseptic. I only use a little on the problem spot. The only problem with the Tree Tea Oil is that it has a strong smell like turpentine. At the price I paid for it it would be too expensive to use the Tree Tea Oil as a cleaner for my entire face. MiG16
philip is right, the tea tree oil Im talking about is in its pure form (as in not a tiny teeny percentage in some facial wash or cream) a tiny bottle costs about 40$ not sure how much it would be in thailand! might need to look up the net for similar type of thai herbs ......Im sure there has to be something with similar quality but yes, gel instead of cream should be one way too
sylvafern
I use Garnier Wrinkle lift day cream (in a red tub) which is really good for me - no wrinkles yet whatsoever (touch wood!). As for sunscreen, I have to wear it on my face as I suffer from unattractive pigmentation if I don't. After trying all the different cheap face sunblocks (nivia, vaseline, etc) and getting blocked pores and zits, I splurged on a Shisedo SPF 35 Sunblock which I wear every day. It cost me $50 in New Zealand which is quite a lot of money on a sunblock but I've had it 8 months and have only used about 2/3 of the bottle so it has actually been a good deal, especially as it doesn't feel greasy or block my pores as other products have done. Thanks Sylvaferm, have been seraching for a good facial sunblock. Even though I have normal skin, every one I try either irritates me, or gives me spots. I love my moisturizer so don't want to change that for an spf one.

Bangyai
The tap water in Bangkok is very hard and not very kind to sensative skin. You can buy better water for washing your face in those large 10 litre water containers you see around. Very cheap. Wash your face with this always and use a soap with the minimal amount of chemicals.

How about diet ? Thai food, especially ' Ahahn Dtam Sang ' has a lot of oil in it. You said oily skin....do you mean in a sweaty way ? Maybe try not using anything for a while as with this heat your skin poors should be open more than in a cold climate......but then I'm a bloke , so what do I know about the niceties of makeup ? Goodluck with it anyhow.
