It won't turn on, the battery was taking hundreds of photos at a time, many with flash, before the last charge.

Try getting hold of a new battery to try.

Rechargeable batteries do fail, also check out the charger.

I know chargers have a limited life span here due to the voltage fluctuations.

It's just that all the lights seem to be working and I've never seen a battery crap itself instantly, they always seem to die a slow death.
