Question:- AM I 'MUG OF THE DECADE???'

You and tens of thousands others who come to Thailand and fall for the same ol' ____.

Maybe I got a different visa application than most of you because I didn't see anything about having to leave my brain at border before entering Thailand.

It's a mugs game, well and truly over now.

Anyway, now i am talking to this nice lady in BKK, lives in a condo but her buffalo ain't very well, seems he don't like the stairs.

Maybe I should buy her a bungalo in the suburbs!!!!!!!!!!!

also her brother needs money to train as a pilot, he used to have a kite which he flew very well so he will make a good pilot.

Reckon this one is genuine, what do you lot think I should do?

i reckon you have picked up a fair grasp of the thai language if you are using phrases like that.

therefore no need to ask for our advice, you are already further down the road than most, good luck on your travels.

Pardon me...

Reading so many stories like this makes me ask...

Why do otherwise intelligent, successful Western men become stupid, dumb, blind, deaf and gullible when they enter Thailand or deal with Thai women? :o

Are Thai women that exceptionally beautiful, lovable, sexy, good-in-bed, caring, special and all? Some Thais are pretty and sexy and intelligent but the majority I found as ordinary as the tuktuks on the streets of LOS. And beauty is not a monopoly of Thai women... it is present in other Asians, Latinas (best looking race for me, per capita speaking), Middle Eastern, Indian, Africans or even from your own backyards, Caucasian-populated included.. So why do a lot of nice, good-looking, successful, intelligent, kind, well-educated even young farangs getting hitched to aging, hand-me-downs, ugly, flabby, poorly educated and raised, with kids from other lovers/husbands/boyfriends to boot? And not only that...scheming, lying, lazy, poor values and can't even communicate well? How desperate can some people get? How fast and easy have their standards of what a good girlfriend/wife fall to rock bottom when they are in TH? And how these guys spoil them so!?! Would they do those things they do for a GF/wife back home?

Sorry if I am being blunt and I am not even criticizing anyone here I hope. Just stating observations. And I guess, expressing my bewilderment. I am so disenchanted with this facet of LOS. But I think it is still a good tourist destination..., as long as your knowledge of these things doesn't affect the way you look at temples or shop in their relatively cheaper market or devour those Thai dishes... but even those things can get pretty boring and flat after a while.

Demystified with Siam... that's me!

Happy Sunday anyway... :D . Sun should be soon be up and shining in Thailand at this time. Smile... :D

Looking for:/ sarcastic comments/bum steers, or maybe just a little real advice!!

Here is the whole story:-

My brother met his Thai wife on the internet, they fell in love and got married!!!!!!!!! Absolutely no problems, she is an angel....

Following his lead I went online and met someone who interested me.

After 4 months of internet chat I went to Thailand to meet her,.... yes the spark was there!!

After 3 days she announced that she wanted to take some of her family on a holiday as they had never seen the sea, could I help with the cost!

I was having a great time and said yes, she paid for the hotel (pretty basic) and I paid for the travel and food, in all cost me £200 for 3 days, not bad as there were 13 including me.

Many times her relatives hovered around expecting a few extras to be paid for and, many times she gently berated me for offering to pay.

On our return we got engaged, great party at her house for which i paid £300, plus gold of £750 for her status??

Now here is the crux of the matter....................

We have talked of marriage, yes I want this, so maybe I have lead the conversation.

NOW she says her family want me to pay a dowry....500,000 bhat, I said NO!!

She says she will think again, and then says, it must be 500,000 bhat!

At the same time after 14 years suddenly her business is not doing well ( she owns 2 beauty salons),

So now I have sent her £1,500 and have said I will send £200 each month

She is 42yrs Isaan, she has 3 sons, eldest is 24yrs (a complete lazy b*st*rd, waste of space) next is 22yrs(nice bloke ,works in the salon with his wife, both like to play more than work!) and last is 4yrs old reminds me of my own boys at that age.

Question:- AM I 'MUG OF THE DECADE???'

Now I genuinely want to get some real advice, please..

I seriously would like to hear from anyone who has been through this sh*t and come out the other side smiling!

Sorry to hear that but, have you researched the customs of Thailand? What are the custom about dowry? If you speak Thai well talk to counselors there in thailand. Get the facts. There may be a lot of factorsa that are included that were not talked about. Remember with people they all have a agenda of how it is supposed to be. What is this "supposed to be"? Find out thru local Thai men then you may have a better idea of what is ok and if you are being taken advantage of.
